Hi everyone!

I have posted before about this a couple times but didn't get any feed back really. So maybe now that I made a new subject maybe this will get some feed back and a conversation going.

I feel that the largest file size you can get onto 1 cdr-80 is 746 megs. and that is with overburn being used. The way that I am reaching this file size measurement is with Windows Explorer. If you go to Windows Explorer and look at the actualy file size it will say it is under 740 megs. Now if you really are going to say you are getting 800 megs + onto 1 cdr-80, you should use something that actually measures the file size and not use vcdeasy or nero to measure the file size and plus add the files and such to make it an actual vcd. Because who wants to use vcdeasy or nero to measure the true file size. I would think that you would want to use the actual file size from the begining of the process of making it into a vcd and not during the process. LOL

Also, it appears that you can only put a 717\718 meg. file onto 1 cdr-80 without the use of overburn. This again is using Windows Explorer for the true file size measurement and not use vcdeasy or nero as the source. Just doesn't make any sense to me anyhow to measure it during the process and not BEFORE the process of burning. LOL

Well, if you have any ideas or agree or disagree or tell us what you are using for your file measurements, then please post here.

Thanx,

No one has yet came up with their answer yet. What program are you using to measure your file size BEFORE you start the vcd burning process..lol That is the actual true file size, not when you load it into vcdeasy or nero and then the programs add there files and such. That isn't an accurate file size. Try using Windows Explorer and see what the actual file size is..lol That is how you get the true file size. Which is 746 megs. max and that is with overburn.

I get 815MB burned on my Plextor 12/10/32A.
815MB as shown in Windows Explorer.

Even 827,226 as shown in Explorer overburns and fails a couple of megabytes at the end in finilizing the disk, but still plays correctly the complete movie.

And 827,226MB is what's shown in Windows Explorer, and at the DOS prompt, a DIR lists the file as 847,079,408.

The media I am using is 80 minute CD-R "Prime Peripherals".

Does it really make that much of a difference in what brand of burner you have? I have a Mitsumi and the most it does with over burn is 740 megs. When Vcdeasy puts all their files and such in there, it is over 800 megs. Just doesn't seem like the brand name would really make hardly much of a difference on the ability of amount able to be burnt. Cause I burnt Family Man onto 1 cd and it is 746 megs. and right at the end it cut the last few seconds off the movie, (which was fine since it was the end where they are sitting at the table together and the credits start rolling) and the last minute or so where the overburn is, the video jumps sometimes. Cause with the overburn it burns basicly 82 minutes and of course without overburn 80 minutes (if you want to use time measurements).

And does it matter on what name brand of disks you use? I use some generic brand I am assuming..lol Called Durabrand. But they are pretty cheap which is nice cause I can buy 100 cd bundle at around $30 which is the cheapest I have seen anywhere.

i can successfully say that i can put 807MB of video data on an 80min/700MB CD-R. using VCDEasy w/CDRDAO, in the log file, it shows my max capacity for 74min CDs are 753MB and 80min CDs are 807MB.

i always test my VCDs with a CD-RW (74min cause thats all i have) and i can still put an 800MB video file on them. the write ALWAYS fails, but when inserting the disc in my stand alone, the video plays in full. go figure.

**note: CDRDAO and most authoring progys use 5-10MB of data for indexing and other stuff. so if a CD can hold 807MB, you video file cannot exceed 795MB.

Last night, I just burn 855MB on 80min CD with Nero overburn feature. Make sure "check" simulation option before you burn. You will save a CD if something go wrong.

I am using AOPEN 10x24x40 with Samsung CD (yellow color) @ 8x speed.

Hi ZeppelinFan !
I see u can't manage with burning !
As some others (and me too) wrote in this forum CD-R80 gives 807-808mb at max and CD-R90 gives 939mb max with overburn .
Use Nero 5.5 or higher .
I burn on PLEXWriter(PLEXTOR) 16/10/40A .

IF u can't get those numbers don't be stuborn and check your CDwriter,
program or system coz you have problem MAN , solve it and enjoy more space on disk => MORE quality .

I am not being stubborn here. That was sorta rude. I was just seeing if anyone else is having the same problem or if you all was using the same program to get the file size from. Seems that the most I can get onto a cdr-80 is 740 megs. And that is with overburn. Maybe it is my cd burner.

No one has answered my question, does it seem to matter what namebrand of cds you use? I am using Durabrand.

Or maybe it is my cd burner giving me the trouble. I will try to use Nero, cause right now I am using Vcdeasy.

I just started doing this and use both and have put a 767,404kb mpg file on an 80min disk + whatever files Vcdeasy adds. There is still unburned area lefton the disk.

Hi

Kwag has explained the differing formats before and i think they are listed in his FAQ now.

You dont have to view the file in explorer to get its true size just right click on the file > properties and you can get it that way. The graphic below shows you CD sizes and there capacities depending on which format you use.

Also what firmware does your writer have on it, maybe updating this will help.

i'm using Nero 6 Ultra Edition on a PlexWriter 12/10/32A and it keeps saying "Command sequence error" when trying to overburn 795MB on a 800+MB CDR. i've tried all speeds 1x, 4x, 8x and 12x and i've also checked the options "no multisessions", "enable overburn", "disc-at-once" and "finalize CD" and the max time is set to 92min.
i'd appreciate any help. many thanx.

Try also the mode "DAO/96". Pioneer DVD burners for instance can't overburn on a CDR in simple "DAO" mode.

Else, you can try other tool to burn (clondeCD for instance) : you have to s use daemon tools to mount the image you want to burn as a false CD drive, then use these emulate drive as source in cloneCD. This programm handle some burner a lot better than Nero does.

If nothign works, then your burner does nor support overburn, that's all.

in nero click on "choose recorder", select your drive and IF he can do overburn you will see there:

overburn : supported

if you don't see that "message",...is like Phil wrote:

Unfortunally, sometimes it is written but the burner doesn't accept that.
My PC has a burner like this when I bought it.
(okay, Nero was in release 5.5.8 at this time and they possibly fix the problem now)
