TMPGEnc: Blurry and Squares/Blocks in Video

Hi i havent used Tmpgenc much yet because past experience i have
found quality poor on fast actions scenes Ie going blurry and squares

Had a search of the threads in here - cant see anything

Any suggestions guys to get around the blurriness

Add a sharpener filter in your script

And of course, use high resolution (for sure, at 352*288 everything is blurr).

Can you give the exact name for the filter and what resolution do you recommend instead?

Ypu are using my v4 script so don't bother, it handle the bluyriness.
If you wonder about the pixels, I answered to you in an other thread. As always, double post DOES NOT HELP

The filter name is sharpen and it is the only sharpen filter option in TMPGEnc. You don't say what version you are using but with 2.5x and 3.0 both have it. The amount you use for it is going to depend on your video. This is something you will just have to play with. I know Xpress 3.0 will allow you to preview the filter before you apply it, I don't know about 2.5x.

As for resolution, I have found that it is crap in crap out. If you have downloaded something of the net or P2P or whatever and it is of poor quality, that is about all you will ever get from it. If you are doing video capture with a tuner card or from a camcorder, etc. They use the best quality resolution you can and keep the resolution as high as you can. If you take digital DV down to 252x240 then you are going to have a problem. The sharpen filter will help, but it still won't be as good as you might want. In this case I wouldn't go lower than DVD quality, this should keep the blurriness and blockiness to a minimum.

hehe does it always help if soo id always leave it on i tried a few filters b4 and it seems to mess up the video

Can't help you with that one. I haven't had a need to use any filters yet. When you tried them before was it in 2.5 or 3.0? Maybe they work right in 3.0. I know most times there are two filters on by default that I can't turn off. Deinterlace and resize. I suspect it is because most of the time I am re-encoding larger size video to smaller size so the resize has to be used. As for interlace I don't know why that is always on.

mine are normaly the opasite of what u do then mostly i do vobs (aka 720x480/dvd format) or subtitled anime I find on the net (640x480 norm) but i run both tmpgecs i run old one (2.53) for the vobs and the 3 Xpress for large batch jobs. But back to filters i havnt had much time to play with them. I think I will here soon so i can see the diff bettewn them mabe the the new ones are better i dont know as of yet.
