TMPGEnc: KVCD cannot be played on my standalone DVD player!

Greetz,

Sorry for maybe lame problem but I couldn't find anwer so far.
I'm trying to convert DivX to KVCD:
- Extracting audio using Virtual Dub and converting to mp2 it using HeadAC3
- Encoding video using TMPGEnc :
* KVCD 352x576 PAL template
* changing framerate from 25 fps (PAL) xxx fps, where xxx is AVI original framerate
- multiplexing using TMPGEnc tools
- burning it using Nero (non compilant SVCD)

The problem is that the resulting cd does not want to play on my DVD player.
I had almost no problem when using whole conversion inside TMPGEnc (leaving PAL framerate and allowing TMPGEnc to encode audio) but this causes two problems:
* jerky video (problably due to poor conversion from 23.976 to 25 fps i.e.) both when playing on my PC and DVD player
* poor audio quality (but I could live with it)

So what could cause my problems:
* dvd player does not like non-standard framerate?
* dvd player does not like multiplexing job done by TMPGEnc?

Multiplexed file plays fine (using some shareware mpg2 decoder) on my PC.
I also remember a couple of problems when multiplexing or cutting mpgs encoded using standard PAL framete: some of cds were not recognized as a valid SVCD, some just didn't want to play (black screen, although my dvd player tells it's playing).

Additional questions:
* when multiplexing which 'Type' select from dropdown list?
* is there's some magic/filter that can be applied to make mpgs encoded with framerate convertion playing smooth?

First correction - I'm trying to produce KSVCD (not KVCD).

Here goes the information:

SOURCE:

- Filetype: xvid avi
- Interlaced/Not interlaced: I'm not sure how to check this
- Framerate: 23.976
- Resolution: 576x304
- Audiosamplerate: 48 khz
- Audio Type: AC3
- Audio: CBR

DESTINATION:

- K(S)VCD
- Mode: mpeg2
- Framerate: 23.976
- Resolution: 352x576
- Audiosamplerate: 44.1 khz
- Audio Enc Type: mp2
- Encoding Appl.: TmpgEnc for video, headAC3 for audio
- muxing Appl.: TmpgEnc
- Authoring Appl.: Nero ( if I understand word 'authoring' correctly)
- Burning Appl.: Nero

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Okay I understand now. There is the problem : you can't use a PAL resolution (... x 576) and a NTSC framerate (23.976).
As you source is NTSC you must chose between let it in NTSC (and use a target resolution like ... x 480) or change the framerate to 25.

-> did you try the first solution ? Your system is probably abble to play NTSC material even if you are in the PAL area

-> to change smoothly a framerate you must use an avisynth script. Are you already using one ? Do you know how to do that ?

Authoring is the operation that consist in taking teh mpegs and generate a disc image in the correct format (VCD or SVCD, or even DVD of course)

I was suspecting PAL resolution and NTSC framerate could cause some problems.
But I also remember having some problems using PAL/PAL mpgs when cutting or multiplexing them in TMPGEnc. Burned cd didn't want to play at all in some cases (DVD player couldn't recognize or it was behaving in the same way as my PAL/NTSC mpg).
I can't give exact source information this time - I only remember I was cutting large mpg into 2 pieces and first part was playing well while second didn't want to.
This is why I asked which 'Type' to use when cutting/multiplexing in TMPGEnc.

I will try to follow your suggestions and try to encode NTSC/NTSC mpg or use avisynth script. Currently I have no knowledge how to write such script but I will try to learn.
I will also give try D.I.K.O.

Thanks for your time.
