Dual processors system VS single processor system

Hi all, My friend just give me a dual pentium3 550Mhz system (board and CPU only). If I built this system, will it improve the time to encode (from 5hrs to 3hrs) under Tmpgenc program.

I know the program support dual CPU system setup. Just wondering who had this experience??? or just waste money.

My currently system is p3-933Mhz, winxp pro (dual CPU supported)

You won't get an increase in speed with the dual 550, because TMPEG uses the second processor only for filters. So for regular encodes, your time will be around 10+ hours with the 550 processors. I had a ASUS P2B dual P3 500Mhz, and that was my encoding time.

i am currently running a dual 866 PIII with 512 RAM and my encoding times are around 4-5 hrs.

dual CPUs wont increase your speed by 2 fold, but will allow you to multitask. you could possibly encode 2 videos simutaneously with the encoding times increasing just a bit. but then you get REAL slow system performance.

For that, yes! You can run 2 sessions of TMPEG and assign one processor to each. And make two encodes in the time it would take one encode in a single CPU.

If you set the priority of each task to normal, your system won't suffer too much, and will be responsive. This is of course in Win2K or XP.
