KDVD: Which resolutions are supported by DVD?
well i knoe that dvd supprts standard resolutions
vcd 352 x 240/288 cvd 352 x 480/576 dvd 704/720 x 480/576 but is the kvcd resolution supported 528/544 x 480 ? also mpeg1 does not support pulldown - but dvdlab uses pulldown on mpeg1 files? hows that possible, and does it work ? thanx in advance. bazzy |

528x or 544x are not a valid DVD resolution, so unless you "patch" it with DVDPatcher, no compliant DVD authoring program will import the file Quote:

so wot would u think, if i used the ntsc -> pal feature in dvd2svcd, then, used 528 x 480 resolution, patched it. then import it into a dvd authoring program, it should work, do you think i would have any problems, either in that process, or on a standalone ?
thanx for the fast reply, n thanx in advance... bazzy |

With the KVCD notch matrix, is enough to fit the average of ~5 hours full quality on each DVD-R. The resolution patching works on some standalone players, but not on all :!: But again, and just like KVCDs 528x/544x non standard resolutions, if your player supports an encoded 528x/544x resolution patched to something else, it's your gain :!: And that's what this site is all about. Experiment to your heart's content. :D -kwag |
im going to experiment to my hearts content !!!

ok i made a kvcd - 528 x 576. patched it. imported it into dvd lab - and it said to use dvd size, but u can turn that off in prject properties.
so i did. it accepted the file. and i made a simple menu, and compiled the dvd. and then burned it on to a cd-r (miniDVD). i put it in my stand alone, and it worked perfectly so to get to the point, does this mean tht my dvd player accepts tht resolution, wen burned on a dvd-r and not cd-r? Thanx in advance Bazzy! |

Remember that the patch is only to fool the authoring program. The final result will be how the standalone DVD player interprets the MPEG headers on the stream, and how good the decoding software is to take into account the abnormal resolution of the MPEG file. Every DVD firmware is different, so in your case, it seems that the firmware takes into account the actual encoded resolutions, and stretches it correctly. Other players won't do that, and you will get a weird picture or aspec ratio. -kwag |
