KVCDx3 widescreen question

When I encode using the PAL KVCDx3 mpeg-1 & 2 the widescreen sizes are different:

MPEG-1
MPEG-2

surely if I used the same widescreen setting (16:9 625 line [PAL]) for both they would both be the same size?

Hi Andy,
Check that the MPEG-2 PAL template you have is dated September 1, 2001 timestamp 10:25AM. Some changes were made to that template, so if your version is older, re-download. The .zip file was also updated. That was the last date of any changes made to the templates.

And BTW: Those JPegs of LOTR look GREAT!

I've got 3rd sep on the time stamp but I will do a redownload of them as soon as I have posted this.

Thanx to get that quality look at my lotr sticky post in the tmpgenc forum.

Edit: Just downloaded and extracted the templates and the dates in the zip matched the ones I already had.

Hey andybno1!

Look like it's a resize problem...
Check the resize parameters in the avs script, to see if they are the same for both samples.
The second image appears to have a wrong aspect ratio.

I agree with you muaddib,

the mpeg2 looks like the aspect ratio is wrong- that's what my mpegs look like when I don't check 'anamorphic' in FitCd source- when I should.

it looks like it's vertically stretched.

well I can tell you its not the avs script as I never used one, when I have I just get a invalid video format so I never bother.

So the problem must be the source aspect ratio and/or video arrange method... make sure they are the same. Stay with the one that you use with the first image. It seems that this one has the right AR.

andybno1 09-04-2002 09:47 PM

but the mpeg-1 when played is smaller than the screen grab, I'll do a sample later today as right now I need to get some sleep as its quite early in the morning (3:45am) I'm only up this late because I was downloading something.

Actually, I believe that you are wrong. If you were to view these images on a regular television, the first one would look ver "squashed" becuase with the resolution at what is it, the the MPEG will not be an exact fit on a TV. When viewed on a TV the balck borders would squish the image and make it smaller. If you were to view the second image on a regular TV, The already stretched image would be squashed back down to look normal. I hope I explained this clearly enough.

Good Luck,
A-Star

yeah its squished when I view it on my pc as well. I have the samples of the mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 kvcdx3 template but no where to upload to any suggestions they are 4.47mb and 5.72mb.

I had this problem you described once before. I'm not quite sure, but looks like you are trying to play PAL resolution in a NTSC TV, so the image will be squashed.

Well, I can't think in anything else...
Did you encode another 2 samples with the same source aspect ratio and video arrange method?
If yes, how they came out?

andybno1 09-06-2002 06:44 PM

I have two samples using the kvcdx3 templates, but nowhere to upload to show what they are like.

no the lord of the rings was the first movie I have tried with the kvcx3 templates.

andybno1 09-14-2002 09:59 AM

ok, here is a sample of what I get. Its only a second because for some reason my the server doesn't want to upload the whole file just one second. I noticed its the same widescreen as the ntsc one.

its left click to download the file, as its on a anti leech server.
