Bitrates: TMPGEnc closes quickly?
Hi I could use some help with CQMatic:
I have had CQMatic working already today, but it suddenly stopped being able to run TMPGEnc. Things I have tried: 1 - I use 8.3 folder and file names in all cases, using v1.2.06 2 - am loading a working .avs file in TMPGEnc, after resetting project file 3 - select my output directory (8.3 also) in TMPGEnc 4 - load my KVCDx3 MPEG1 template 5 - confirm source range is de-selected 5 - save project as text 6 - launch CQMatic 7 - load project file 8 - set TMPGEnc location in Settings 9 - run CalcuMatic to get my time and bitrate, in this case 95/918.6, and enter them in CQMatic 10 - select X1/Prediction Only 11 - click Execute I get the quick open and close problem. Then I tried deleting the .conf and .tpr files in the CQMatic directory and running through the whole process again. Same problem. ll your File size differences are negative.
Reset your source range in TMPEG before saving the project. -kwag |

That is, source range is not checked. Do you mean check it and then un-check it again?

Unchecking is not enought as it keeps the previous settings in memory. you have to RESET them.
For that : double click on the "source range" feature, don't worry if a warnign windows pops up, just continue. Click on "default" button, then on the cut editing menu (bottom, left) select "reset editting" (if that entry is not already greyed). Then exit from this screen. The source range is now checked: NOW uncheck it :-) Thats is what "reset range editing" means, and you have to do all that evry time. |

this would be my first try. i've managed to encode movies to kvcd before but i've always put a random cq number in tmpgenc so sometimes i get a file thats 400mb and sometimes i get a file thats 850mb. i would really like to learn to use cqmatic so i could avoid guessing the cq myself.
hope someone can teach me how to use it. |
You surely didn't do all the steps. Follow carefully what OrbMan descibe in it's post dated from "Sun Jul 25, 2004 3:10 pm".

3 - select my output directory (8.3 also) in TMPGEnc - what's a "8.3" ? could someone explain this to me. and yes i did reset it if reseting means doing exactly as you said. settings>advanced>source range i open it (it is already unchecked, btw), hit the default button and exit (because 'reset cut editing' is already greyed. then i uncheck 'source range') |
ok, i finally got cqmatic to work but after predicting it always ends up with 89.77 no matter what the movie or the bitrate is. how can i get rid of that and if that has already been answered in this forum then PLEASE forward me to the thread (a link would be nice) not tell me to search it myself ;)

Can you check the sample encoded by CQMatic (it should have the name "F:\Videos\Mean.Girls.m2v.sample"). Read it into a media player (if you have a mpeg2 codec installed) or open it into virtualdubmod. What is in this file ?

ok i got cqmatic to work (i didnt let the testing finish, thats why i got no results, silly me :)) but now i have another question. do i have to set the average bitrate myself in tmpgenc or will cqmatic do it for me? if it will then it doesnt work for me cause after calculating out the cq which works great, it leaves the bitrate still at 'maximum 2500, minimum 300' although i did set the average bitrate in cqmatic before processing (got it from calcumatic). so what should i do? set it myself manually? if so, then if my average bitrate is supposed to be 1016kbit/s then whats my max. and min. cause there is no option in tmpgenc for 'average' bitrate, only max. and min.

Hi Tyler5 :),
Well there is a better way than average bitrate with tmpgenc :arrow: that is CQ mode :D So based on the data you provide it with, CQMatic calculates the correct CQ (constant quality) to apply in the encoding phase. Don't worry you don't need average bitrate, at all ;-) Just give it a run and see if the resulting encoded file stays near the final wanted size :) I'm sure it will. Oh, almost forgot. If you need something to calculate the average bitrate needed by the CQMatic options use it's brother Calcumatic ;-). Cheers |
