Did any1 read the distressing news on the Main Homepage about the EU software patents threatending free programs like Mplayer and FFMpeg and the other's mentioned.

This will be a sad day indeed if it were to come about.

I see we can set the dc precision with commandlines. This is very good. I made some tests and the quality looks very good but I don't know the rate control problem. But what means this:

Quote:
FFmpeg/libavcodec:
RV20 fixes
many H.264 fixes
B-frames in H.264, H.264 weighted prediction support
a lot of integer overflow and pointer fixes
32 bit RGB support in TSCC
multichannel MP3 decoder (MP3on4)
3g2 support
ALAC audio decoder
LOCO video decoder
WNV1 video decoder
shorten audio decoder and demuxer
AASC video decoder
AMR NB/WB support via external reference decoders
significantly faster snow decoding
experimental ratecontrol for snow
countless bug fixes all over the place

EDIT: I cant' see any peaks at the moment. Also nice new feature: Multipass encoding. But 3 passes is the best. Tested with 10 passes.

Hi EM ,
This is a pretty much "dead" part of the forum, right?
Not much people still testing ffmpeg or ffmpeg based encoders.
MEncoder used to be updated almost every hour.
And a new build (CVS) would be automatically generated everyday.
But there used to be problems with the CVS because it wouldn't be properly tested.
So to go on the safe side, go with the Pre version.
Cheers

Obviously not in the MPEG2/MPEG1 part. People a more focused on more attractive (for their eyes) codecs. But I did not check since a long time.

Oh, this aren't good news. But in this version there are so many new things for MPEG-2 so I thought it will be more stable.

@EM,
They used to release a lot of fixes to addressed to MPEG2.
But when you went to look closely most of them were directly related to MPEG4 similar issues.
Last time I checked there was still a BIG bug in the ratecontrol and VBV buffer providing lot's of overflows on specific cases...
But I'll try to find sometime to check this Pre.
Cheers

Yes this is/was one big problem so I tested the new versions of MEncoder.

I hope.

The newest Pre version looks very good. At the moment I have no buffer overflows or to high peaks. I like that I can do a DC Precision and more then 2 passes.
