Encoding: TMPGEnc vs CCE?

Hi all,

I'm mostly doing kdvd (mpeg2). Should I use tmpgenc or cce?

Which program provides best quality? Right now I'm using tmpgenc, and it bugs me that it's very slow. Is CCE faster?

It is at least 3 times faster and for MPEG2 with high bitrate allowed on KDVD, there is no real quality diff between tmpgenc and CCE.

And KSVCDs will be encoded using low Bitrate.

So if your SAP allows it, do use tmpgEnc and mpeg1 at lowbitrate encodings for KVCD purposes

As already told .... IF USING HIGHER! AVG Bitrates like about 2000kbit THEN CCE mpeg2 makes sense as on low Bitrates TmpgEncs mpeg1 encoding results in better Quality.

In your case, you where talking about K"S"VDCs right? To me those ones only do make sense if the StandalonePlayer of your own doesnt support mpeg1 at higher resolutions and VBR.

So do a comparison with a KVCD/mpeg1/LowBitrate and you will see.

I think that this still the case of many users here. So, in the way I see it, his question remains not answered (at least in this thread

At SVCD bitrates (and lower), which one is the best (quality wise) MPEG2 encoder?

i did tests months ago, see what i remember:
all of them was using kvcd notch matrix.

kvcd mpeg1 352x240 min300 max 2500 tmpgenc is champion!

kvcd mpeg2 (352x480 and 480x480) min 300 and max 2500, just the same for ~110 minutes. between 80 and 140 minutes: CCE is better for 80 minutes and tmpgenc is better for 140 minutes !

mini-kdvd mpeg2 (352x480) min700 and max8000, just the same for ~25 minutes.

kdvd mpeg2 (720x480) min 700 max 8000, just the same without any differences.

important details:
CCE is always fast than tmpgenc.(depend the number of passes in CCE)
CCE250 is faster for athlons but we can't choose the kvcd notch matrix.
CCE266 is slow than CCE250 but faster than tmpgenc and we can choose the kvcd notch matrix!

now i only do kvcds 352x240 with tmpgenc, just a few mini-kdvds with CCE266, and lots kdvds with CCE266!
