I am psyched about the new templates...
But for HQ output I am assuming we stick with the current K3. I am working on the first 10 minutes of Black Hawk Down as a test.
Should there be a quality difference between MPEG-1 & MPEG-2 with default template settings?
During that 10 minute scene there is visable noise in a few places:
Around the edges of the white letters (text) when it is shown on top of a video scene. (It is much cleaner on the black background).
When the helicopters are over the top of the masses of people and they show down to several hundered people scurring around on the ground it is almost blurry. Not sharp... no necessarily noise but certainly low detail.
Around the helicoper blades when shown from a distance as part of a bigger scene...
What settings control those minor artifacts/noise? I am only showing the output on a regular TV. (Sony 35" Trinitron) so I was hoping there was not going to be a resolution issue. I have tried CQ at 20 & 30 and there is not much difference. (30 is a notch better but not significantly).
Is there other settings worth adjusting? At CQ 20 the entire movie (video only) was around 950 MB.
Strangely... using the K3 MPEG-1 template and just dropping the resolution in Fit CD and TMPGEnc to 352 from 528 did not significantly drop quality. My guess is that is due to resolution that never gets to a standard TV output being dropped. There is no cost to drop something you don't see.
Any input is useful...
Thanks,
Grantman
