Hi, I have a Quicktime 3ivx .mov file, 1.3 gig, 1025x416, 25fps, 1 hour 44 mins. It has a multi language selection menu when loaded in quicktime so speech is different languages, no subtitles, plays normal english in media player. I have searched around and tryed allsorts but I just cant seem to do anything with it. Saved it as .avi in quicktime, which plays but doesnt load up in tmpgenc, tried a couple mov to avi programs which failed, tried with rad video tools but it just saved the avi at 1.3+ gig but only 44 seconds play, about to give up with quicktime crap.

Thanks

You should uncheck avi support in VFAPI tab of tmpegenc's settings and check the Direct Show handler.

Ok thanks tmpgenc 2.5 plus is reading the avi and encoding the video now with no audio saving as .m1v, MPEG-1 528x576 25fps CQ 60. Used the KVCD template and selected 16:9 PAL. When this is done what do I use to rip the audio and combine that and video together? Have no clue how to use Avisynth, got the Gordon Knot packs do I need VCDEasy?

Just stopped it after a few mins, played what I got in WMP and its just a box in the middle of it, will it play as widescreen on my widescreen TV tho or will it be a box in the center too?

Forget wmp to read KVCD as it does not enforce the correct output A/R.
But don't worry, your TV set will do, so you won't have just a little box in the middle

For the audio part, yes you have to encode is manually in mp2 with headac3che or besweet then mux it to the video using bbmpeg or tmpgenc.

Ok the video is done to .m1v 0.98gb. Now loaded VirtualDubMod to rip the audio which came with Gordon Knot pack, and when loading the avi it says

Code:
---------------------------
VirtualDub Error
---------------------------
Cannot detect file type of "D:\Movies\Terminator 3\Terminator 3- Rise of the Machines.xl.3ivx.avi".
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Maybe has something to do with it originally being quicktime multilanguage? Any way to fix?

Thanks

EDIT: ripped the audio with tmpgenc aswell to mp2 and converted it to wav with headac3he, if i use tmpgenc to put them together, how do I make make it all smaller I didnt see any compression settings, video .m1v is 0.98gig and the audio .wav is 1.03gig.

Yea I got it all ripped now, used bbmpg to put them together and it worked, i set it to make a 795mb file, but it created an 813mb temp00.mpg and a 332mb temp01mpg, dont see what I could have done wrong I used the 1gig m1v file and the 100mb mp2 file, and ripped the video and audio all using the kvcd template in tmpgenc 2.5

bbmpeg will merge your audio and video. In this operation it will be a few more Mb, called mux overhead.
Your final size will be audio + video + overhead. If you set bbmpeg to do a CD, say us, of 795Mb, it will cut first part at 795Mb and the rest will be in another file. bbmpeg don't will make your whole final size smaller.
You have 2 options, keep your movie in 2 CDs, or reencode.
If you said bbmpeg you want a file of 795 Mb, it gave you 795 Mb file. You sure have first file of 813235421 Kb or so. Not missunderstand 813...... with Mb.

yea it is 795mb, forgot xp shows kb instead of meg within folders without going to properties, the 2nd file is 324mb. How can I get it smaller? Opened the avi in tmpgenc, ripped the movie to m1v which is 0.98gig using the KVCDx3-MPEG-1-PAL.mcf template and selected 16:9 for widescreen, same for audio which came out at 95mb mp2, then just put them together in bbmpeg, but the m1v is just a small box in WMP which is right for widescreen, but the final mpeg from bbmpeg runs fullscreen in WMP. What settings can I try changeing in tmpgenc to get it small enough for 1 CD without losing much quality?

1 - First that you need to know is that for reducing final size make sense, you should use avisynth scripts (test files with avs extension and some special instructions to a program called avisynth), specially Dialhot V4 script that you can find out in DivX/XviD section in main page of forum.
2 -
A - Load your avs or avi file in tmpgenc.
B - Load your template.
C - Select only video stream.
D - In settings, video set your final resolution (same as selected in avs script if you use it), set aspect ratio and frame rate and all other stuff. (surely it can leaved as it is, as template has this values as default). In advanced video arrange method = Full screen (keep aspect ratio).
GOP structure keep as default.
E - Quantize matrix: This is a very special point. First time I loaded a template, QMatrix wasn't KVCD notch matrix, the KVCD soul, you need to compare your default values with notch matrix found in KVCD.net web page, specifications, and if your values are differents, just modify it and copy the notch matrix ones. Save your matrix as notch matrix and then it will be loaded every time you start tmpgenc.
F - Save your project. File, save project, in drop and down box select tmpgenc text project.
G _ Run CQMatic, load your tmpgenc project (first time you need to set programs paths in settings), choice prediction type and if you want to encode your final file in automatic way. (In this point something can be wrong as I never used CQMatic, but it is an easy use program). This program will encode your video stream calculating correct CQ to fit your selected target media.
H - Proccess audio as I said before with Besweet or Headac3he.
I - Multiplex with bbmpeg.

Well I changed CQ to 30 instead of 60, took 8 hours and it seems to play great and look great, the m1v is 617mb, but bbmpg closes now every single time I click to load an audio or video file in the start encode settings menu, like I click Open VS then it suddenly closes when it was fine before, so I cant put the audio and video together now :/

CQ = 30 is a very bad value. You can't obtain a decent 104 min KVCD with this value.
You should use avs scripts to rise this value at less to 50, using Dialhot V4 script.
BBmpeg has a bug if you don't patched it in windows xp.
To avoid bbmpeg close itself, when you run it, press de add button in main window and close popuped open file window. Now you can set start encode and do your settings and multiplex. Maybe before you did this action without know that it is required. There is a patched dll for this, search the net or the forum, I posted a link before.

Well put together with the audio now, played it in WMP and it looks very good and plays/sounds fine. What does CQ actually mean? Since it plays fine in WMP would it play ok in my DVD player? or will it have problems like reading it or something?

If your audio is mp2 and your standalone supports KVCD at gived resolution, it will play without problems.
Burn it as VCD not standard (with Nero).

Edited: CQ means constant quality, your mpeg file will be created so, with selected constant quality, and encoder manages bitrate according to this.

Plays fine on standalone dvd, plays fine at the beginning apart from the white text flashing on and off saying whos in it etc, every few secs at one point it would randomly go really squarey for a split second and look screwed, aint played it all yet so dunno if it was cuz of me using my pc at the time or anything or if its because of the low CQ? Doesnt help that I started off my first kvcd with an already ripped mov either lol

To use PC at same time encoding it is not problem.
Low CQ it is, yes.
It was a really bad idea.
Your welcome.
