I read one of your post about your Stargate episodes. Now I capture mpeg 2 tv shows with only I frames at cbr 8 and have others at 352X480 CBR 4.00 as you specified. Do I need to IVTC or not ?

Capture Cards

Most of the Graphics Cards, TV Tuners and Video Capture hardware we use to record video to the PC will not perform any kind of IVTC. Neither do they seem to give a standard order in which they whack the TV fields together. Determining the IVTC is a matter of trying all 10 combinations until the correct one is found. This field order problem applies regardless of if you use PAL or NTSC, if you want to capture any video footage at above 240 pixels high (for NTSC, PAL is 28 you will get at least some interlace problems that need solving! When you are capturing below 240 pixels some capture card will only use one field and hence interlace problems will be almost impossible, but this is not always the case. Usually a normal IVTC can be performed on any video cature card, all you need to know is what field order it starts with.

How do you know ? Most of my clips say progressive in DVD2AVI. I used the ITVC and the playback is jerky

I have gone through the excellent guide and I followed the same procedure to check if the VOB is telecined. I found "We were soldiers" is shown as NTSC interlaced in DVD2AVI, but in fact it could be IVTC (according to that excellent guide). The final output is excellent, however, at some points of the final output, it repeated some "frame". It is like a man walking forward with some steps repeated (like walked a few steps then back to the place where it started). although, it did happen that many times in the final output, but how can I fix it?

That's called looping. Use DVDDecrypter. You probably used some other ripper

Thanks for you reply. I have double-checked the VOB files, they are fine, no looping. I think the problem comes from the process of IVTC. As mentioned in that article, ITVC deletes extra "field" and combines two fields back to one as a "frame", but the order of frame is wrongly sorted (in my case, although it only happened a few times). Here is the script that I used:
