Personaly I do not recomend this build. It is very slow and bugy. Try last year september build. It's ~30% faster and it is more complete.

Do you mean this one:

ffvfw-20030927 ??

Did you really recognised that speed advantage? As I figured out that I got less blocks with the usage of the latest 2004 build? But maybe just the "reinstall" was responsable for solving that issue

Yes: 20030927.
I've tested speed 2003vs2004 on fresh installs, with the same settings. One sample: 46s with 2003, 64sec with 2004. Quality was the same, I've seen no difference, but I get no probem on 2003 with such things like 2-pass (always crash on 2004). On the other hand I dont use 2-pass anymore, it was only test But if it's buggy in one thing, could be bugy in other things.

Just to say that I use ffdshow (not ffvfw) for a long time and I never go above release 20031005 because all the ones after it are buggy !

It can be the same with ffvfw.
