If you want to use it to convert to KVCD, load your first avi, extract audio and save avi without audio, direct stream copy.
Same with your second file.
Now you can open saved avi files appending one to another.
Transcode your video to KVCD.
Convert audio files to mp2 44100 Hz.
Join audio files from cmd.exe or bat file:
copy /b audio1.mp2+audio2.mp2 audiofinal.mp2
Multiplex audio and video.

(To keep avi format, it is very similar, just think a little bit)

alternative:
encode to kvcd each file, one first another later.

Transcode your video to KVCD.
Convert audio files to mp2 44100 Hz.
Multiplex audio and video.
burn the 2 files in 1 cd with nero!
after the first part play the second start without freeze, don't need to join the files before or after encode.

of course, see how much time have each part to choose the proprotional size target of each to burn in 1 cdr!
sorry poor english!

If the audio format are different then your 2 avi aren't two part of the same source !
Chances are poor taht you will be allowed to merge them, either after having changed the audio Video tracks much match PERFECTLY also.
