Sound sync problems
 

I have an mpeg2 SVCD source which plays perfectly well on laptop - Audio and Video perfectly sync'd. I have to convert this to mpeg1 for standalone DVD player.

I cannot open this up directly into TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 as it says Illegal format. I can split the audio and video out with DVD2AVI and then I am allowed to load this into TMPGEnc.

Problem is when I convert this using KVCDx3 the sound is out. I think the sound is becoming out of sync by DVD2AVI as the description of the .mpa file is DELAY -101ms.

How can I fix this problem ?

Hi Jmjarvis,

Use Tmpgenc to encode video only and encode audio separately
using Headac3he. It will automatically detect the .mpa -101ms delay.
Create an .mp2 output file. Use bbMpeg to multiplex audio
with video for final movie file. 8)

I have demuxed (????) my audio File Open -> File Save Project -> .d2v in DVD2AVI without any problems.

I then opened it up in Headac3he and followed the instructions to convert this to .m2p. Upon doing this I get the error message "Read less than expected".

In the instructions for Headac3he its says that he demuxed his audio with DVD2AVI into a .ac3. I cannot find out how to do this.

What am I doing wrong ?

Need more information. I would guess that the .wav file you
extracted using virtualdub was used as input to Headac3he.
If this is the case, please re-read my post carefully about converting
this file. You need to use BeSweet to uncompress this file first and
then use Headac3he to create the final .mp2 file. Explain what steps
you are using? :)

Once again thanks for your quick replies - this is doing my head in. 8O

I have an SVCD (.mpg) source that I can not open in TMPGEnc. I can only open it up in TMPGEnc by opening it up in DVD2AVI firstly and then doing a File Save Project .d2v.

If I then open it up (.d2v) in TMPGEnc and let this convert the Audio & Video then the audio is really out of sync. :x

I thought the general gist of things was to :

1) demux the audio from the video, convert this, as the instructions say, to an .ac3.

2) Convert the video only using TMPGEnc

3) Mux them together using bbMpeg

I am having problems performing step 1. Silly question time : Am I "demuxing" it in DVD2AVI if I simply do a File Open - > and then a File Save Project ????? If I am then reading the Headac3he instructions I am confused as to how the author demuxed his audio using DVD2AVI into .ac3 ???? Anyway once demuxed, when I attempt to convert this using Headac3he either to a .m2p or a .wav I get the error message after converting so much "Read less bytes than expected".

Please help.

Hey Jmjarvis,

The guide for Headac3he is using .ac3 as input. You want to use
the .wav file created from BeSweet as input, then follow the
steps in the guide. Explain the steps you have already completed
and I can tell you how to proceed from there. :)

So to clarify then :

1) Demux the audio using DVD2AVI into a .mpa

2) BeSweet it into a .wav

3) Headac3he it into a .m2p

4) Convert the .d2v created using DVD2AVI using TMPGEnc & KVCDx3 templates

5) Mux the 2 together using bbMpeg

Here's what you do next.

Headac3he:

1> Go to Source File -> select your audio file (movie.mpa)
.....instead of .ac3. You should see Delay right under Source
.....File of -101ms. then follow the guide to convert to .mp2.

When you complete this post me for the next step.

I open up the .mpa file as source which tells me the delay underneath.

I select .mp2 format as destination. I follow the guide and click start. It then gives me the message after about half way of "Read less bytes than expected"

Don't give up. This is the learning process we all must endure.
I had this problem before and here's what I did to solve it.

Mpeg Mediator: (KVCD.net has the download for this)

1> Go to FILE -> Add button -> select your movie mpeg file
.....Press OK button
2> Go to Extract Audio to .wav... -> select output file location
3> You should see a bar with blue progress
4> When done close

Headac3he:

1> Go to Source File -> select your .wav file from Mpeg Mediator
2> Follow the guide as before and create .mp2 file

bbMpeg:

1> Go to Start Encoding button
2> Go to Settings button
3> Select Input and Output Files tab
4> select Open PS -> select location of movie file. Use "temp.mpg"
.....as a file name
5> select Open VS -> select your video file only from Tempgenc
6> select Open AS -> select your audio file created by Headac3he
7> Go to Program Stream Tab
8> Check VCD button
.....Check VBR box
.....Make Forced Mux Rate = 0
9> Go to General Settings
.....End Second = 9999999
.....Start Second = 1
.....Max Size [MB] = 793 (800MB for Nero)
10> Press OK button
11> Press Start button

This will make KVCD mpeg files split at 793MB for each disk. :)
