why do you really think auto_cq is better than 2pass vbr? i think if you use vbr, the encoder can give every frame as much bits as it needs. why is it that constant quality gives better results? i noticed some colour-failures when i encoded lord of the rings with kvcd x3 19 % qu (legolas' face went partly green and red sometimes). you won't have such effects with 2pass-vbr, but you'll have blocknoise. can't you get 2pass-vbr to avoid blocknoise but to make such 'colour-failures' instead?

Take for example a movie like "The Green Mile", which is 3 hours long. Encode it with the KVCD_LBR. It will fit fine on one CD-R.
Now do the same with 2-pass VBR. You won't like the result
