First time making a KVCD
OK, I downloaded the "NTSC 352x240 ULBR (for 360minutes on 1 cd) template." Help me out with the following:
-I plan on playing this KVCD on my "M270 Portable DVD Player (made by AMW)." Will it work? (i'd like to add that it can play VCD/SVCD's) -I loaded the template in TmpgEnc Plus. I opened the wizard, selected Video-CD NTSC, opened an AVI, and the bitrate setting said that it would take about 28% of the cd. What's with this? Shouldn't it be much much less so that I can fit the whole 360minutes? Should I just ignore it and encode? Thanx in advance |
No, no, no, no.
Your begin is not good. First, read guides in: www.kvcd.net and http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10345 |
Does that DIKO program take all the work out for me?
Once I get an AVI (compressed with Divx) I load it through, then what? |

Please, for now to the future, do use search engine. |

OK, i've followed the tutorial, but i've encountered a problem.
I got to the part when I start the conversion in DIKO. I put in my AVI's. Then when I started conversion I got a pop-up error that halted the conversion. Here's the error: "Could not open avs" I used the search button and couldn't find an answer to my problem. help me out please. EDIT: i've opened the avs file in VirtualDub and it revealed this error to me: "AVI Import Filter Error : (unknown) (80040154)" |

Maybe you want to load with avisource a no avi file. Or perhaps you have some problem with your avi codecs. Avi plays fine? |

So I got that, and now when I try to start conversion I get this popup error: "LoadPlugin: "C:\Program Files\DIKO\avisynth plugins\asharp.dll" is not an Avisynth 1.0 plugin" EDIT: Forgot to mention. . . The AVI's play fine. There encoded in Divx 3 (DIV3) I've ran them through VirtualDubMod because the audio header was off. |
i've looked into more things and figured out that the plugin doesn't autostart. So I looked into the Avisynth topic area and learned about it in the sticky thread at the top and I set up the thing for it to open automatically, but now I get this popup error when I try to start conversion:
"Avisynth : script open failed!" |
The script is the avs file, open it with Notepad, copy there and paste here.
|
OK, here's the script for the first one:

I don't know what avisynth version you have but
Quote:
You need avisynth 2.5.4 or greater version. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/a...5.exe?download Uninstall previous version and install the new one. DIKO log show that you want to encode 6 files. Is it true? As showed in log, your avg bitrate will be 528 (-b 528). This is to low to obtain good results. Off Topic @VM: I can see in FreeEnc command line that GOP is set = 24. When we test Mencoder (using libavcodec) talked about best gop size to use would be 15. Why you keep 24. End OT |
I do have the newest version of Avisynth. . .i'm completely sure of this.

@all,
Since DIKO only uses CCE or FreeEnc I wouldn't try to use it for low bitrate encodings with many movies. For LBR/U-LBR RichManDash should use Tmpgenc. But since you're starting it is probably best to start with DIKO, getting to know it's tools and then go for bigger fish. Try with 1 or 2 movies to upper the bitrate a little, just to see the good results. @VM, Yes I think GOP=24 is not a very good thing to use with Libavcodec based encoders. Can you clarify this V?. Thanks :) Cheers |
ok, then I guess i'll wait till the DIKO developer posts here. . .
I really want to make a kvcd that can hold 360 minutes of vicdeo on 1 cd-r. It'd be nice so that I could fit 10-14 episodes of anime on 1 cd-r rather than just 3 (when making a regular vcd) |

If you make it a DIKO issue by saying that you'll just wait for vmesquita to post here then I'll have to see that this thread is splitt and pasted at the DIKO forum.
Now, are the error messages gone? Cheers |
no, there are still errors
what do you guys think of ympeg? That codec thing that goes in with Virtualdub. I read a bit about it and that just might solve my problem. I run my video's through virtualdub with ympeg, then encode it to mpg using TmpgEnc with the 360minutes kvcd template, then burn the mpg as a vcd. Would that work? |
Hi RichManDash,
Either you encode in Vdub with YMPEG or you encode directly in tmpgenc. You don't use both at the same time. Unless you want to use tmpgenc just to mux your audio and video since it has a multiplexer. But when it comes to multiplexing I would always prefer bbMpeg as it seems it's more compatible. So tell us about your error messages. Are those still the same? Cheers |
