hi i have a question for you all. recently i created an avi with the ffdshow encoding on it. now i was trying to make a kvcd from it and i ran into a problem. firstly the avi did not load properly in Virtualdub. but i managed to get a direct stream copy of the video. but when trying to create the m1v in TMPGEnc, i ran into a problem. the m1v came out to just be a blank video.

now this is the first time i have used a ffdshow encoded avi and i presume this is a problem. is there anyway i can create a kvcd with ffdshow encoded avi?

ffdshow is a direct show filter so you have to set tmpgenc to use them and not the normal avi handler (used for "regular" avi).

Go in environnemental settings, VFAPI tab, check DirectShow and unchek AVI.

FFdshow also comes with a ffvfw encoding/decoding interface.
If Tmpgenc uses vfw for handling inputs like in case of avi or readavs.dll then the ffvfw compunt of ffdshow "should" handle that.
Well in my cases of some "FFDS" FourCC captures VDub or CCE (both use vfw for decoding)douse ffdshows ffvfw compunt to decode it.

You are not mandatory to install both. I do not have ffvfw on my PC (more exactly, I removed it after having done some tests of the encoding engine).

I refered to the FFvfw decoding engine of the ffdshow Package
I dont remember but you still got an older version of ffdshow installed right?

The recent ones are provided as just "ffdshow" packages (official name) but do come with an "internal" ffvfw engine included which will make ffdshow also able to "decode" FourCCs in "vfw" apps like Vdub or CCE or even the Avisource command of avisynth which uses vfw.

But there are still some Bugs related to the Filtersection in FFdshows vfw engine and that can be recognised as the filters wont work, just the stream is decoded by ffdshows vfw engine thats all - and Makeavis "avis" wont be decoded properly by the vfw decoding interface of ffdshow. But for that one I do point to an old ffvfw.dll outside of the system32 hierarchy.
