Hi,

I just bougth a set of dvds today and wanted to know if I back up the dvd9 ro a dvd5 and then encode to kvcd, will the outcomebe better than dvd9-> kvcd? I'm assuming that dvd9->dvd5->kvcd gives better quality as dvd5 is better than dvd9.

Thanks

DVD9 to KVCD would be best

No backup method is going to improve the quailty of the orginal source which I assume is a DVD9.

Going from DVD9 to DVD5 only makes the source smaller but I would think there would be a loss in quality to achieve this.

Time to Learn....

DVD9 - Can store upto 9 GB of Data

DVD5 - Can Store Upto 4.7 GB of Data

Usually most DVD's today are DVD9 which means you cant back them up directly to your standard 4.7 GB DVD's (DVD5)

You have to use DVD shrink to backup those so as to Fit a DVD5

Or you can use one of the DVD to KVCD guide on the mainpage of this website to convert to a KVCD.

KVCD is primarily used to backup 2-3 (I prefer 2) DVD's to a Single DVD.

Hope this helps you understand better.

have to say...when I did a dvd9-> kvcd using 352*240 the cq was around 70...but muxing is a massive headache with bbmpeg as I want to put 2 audios on... am currently encoding again to a resolution of 480*480 and going to try and mux with bbmpeg ... but cq is sooo crap... currently in testing stage it only is 40-51.... dunno how to get it any higher... but even though it is soo low... in the tmgenc screen it is okay quality except for dark scenes and when the screen focuses on an area for a while.. too many pixelations there....but wish I could get the cq higher.
