KVCD: Listing of Encode settings for Movies?

Alright, here's an idea. There is this giant forum on the KVCD website, why don't people upload their settings and specifics for certain titles.

There is enough people to get a giant list going, and add to it every time they do a backup, in order to make it easier for others.

For example. I have had a really hard time getting Harry Potter 2 into KVCD format. It seems that with standard settings, it is always too big. Must be a lot of motion in that movie. But now that I have figured it out, the correct CQ value, the bitrate, and audio bitrate... if anyone else wanted to backup the same movie... all of the calculations would be done.

Maybe my ideals are a little to high, but does this not sould like a good idea?

Refining my original thought.

Well it's nice to see that someone else likes the idea. However, in order to make this universal, we would need to stick to the KVCD Standards.

Basically if your movie worked great as a KVCD (LBR), that is how you would need to post it. And start a compilation of movies that adhere to Standards.

For Example (Your movie) KVCDx3 (CQ - 67.89) 2 CD's, Audio 128k CBR.

we need more details or better, all details like script used, filters, what encoder and his adjusts....etc.

i told you, the idea is cool but after more than 150 kvcds/kdvds i have one problem.
was using differents parametres to each result and i don't remember one by one.

i can post the new that i'm doing and the news that will came !

I also like this idea. I do, however, see one possible problem with it...

Since encoding results are very much a personal taste, then you may end up creating a kind of elitist argument. Some of the mods on here are much more fussy about quality of output than say you or I. There are many threads where the merits of one line of Avisynth is better than another, and various screenshots posted to further their arguments.

I'm all for this in principle, but I just can't see everyone singing from the same hymn sheet on it. It's been said many times on here that the best result of whether you have a good encoding is to use your own eyes.

Naaah :P,
Go ahead guys, make your day ;-).
Do use as much info as you can get for each movie such as jeo advised.
In the end we are all just trying our best right?
Why not making a public list of settings that worked for some user?
Just make it an "unofficial" one, so that Karl don't get buzzed in his hears if your settings aren't good enough for some other guys.
Cheers

Also remember to note either PAL or NTSC as there can be huge differences between the two

This is a very good idea :)
And I think it's a good idea to open a section in the forum, related to just that.

The subject of the posts should be just the title of the movie followed by "NTSC" or "PAL", to be able to quickly search on the forum.

And the post should be:

Encoder used (TMPEG, CCE, etc.) parameters: MPEG-1/2, MIN, MAX, CQ, Matrix used (notch please ;) ), and all relevant parameters.

Followed by the script used.

So I'll open two new sections in the forum called "KVCD Movie Presets" and another thread called "KDVD Movie Presets"

This way we can start filling it up :)

Standardizing

Let's start with a set criteria. And staying specific is great. The reason for the assistance is all about CQ values.

Movie Title
Total Minutes & Seconds
Resolution of Encode
Encoder (Version)
Video Bitrate Max and Min
CQ Value
Audio Bitrate CBR or VBR
No. of CD's for Movie
End file size
Splitting Points (Time Index) for 2 or more CD movies.

And If I have forgotton anything about movie encoding here, please post something else.

Or, I have a second method. After CQ Matic is done doing a prediction... could you open TMPEG, turn off Source Range, and save a TMPEG Text Project file, and upload it? Others could just Download it and off they go... talk about saving time!!!

@Shibblet,

You haven't checked the main forum page lately, have you :?: :D
( Under the KVCD forum and under the KDVD forum ;) )
