All in one DVD software for my dad?

Basically i am asking what is the best software for my dad to back up some of his collection. He has a library of dvds over 500 and counting. They buy a the new releases no matter what they are. A lot of them are still in shrink wrap. but anyways i would attemp to do it but i currently live in Canada (for school) and home is far far away. I have thought about diko and i was wondering if dvdx was an option. If i remember the early ones were a one click solution to a backup. I am thinking about buying it for him but if anyone knows of something better let me know.

DVDShrink is the easiest think to use for noobs. And the result are very good.

But your dad should buy a double layer burner and wait for the DL media to be cheaper. THis way it will be abble to backup almost any DVD he has. Because only 2 DVD on 3 can go easily from a comemrcial 9.7 GB dvd to a virgin 4.37 DVD. For tha last third, your dad will have to learn a lot about video editing...

Second reply : DIko and Dvdx are tools to do Divx -> DVD... 500 hundred you said ?

Thats funny you called my dad a noob. Good stuff. YEah he got a new sony vaio so it just has the normal and i doubt he will upgrade his drive. Yeah dvd shrink it is probaly is going to be the choice. But dvdx is for dvd is as the platinum version is anyways. But i guess i will show him how to back up the dvds. HE just wants 1:1 copies. My dad is so computer ill that i have to setup and show him how everything works. Well at least i am getting an early start on parenting.

That's impossible with a 4.37 GB burner. 10% of the DVD can go directly on this. 25% must lost some tracks (audio). 50% must lost tracks + bonus. And finally as I told, 30% will never go on a virgin disc (or they will go but the result is unwatchable).

Then he (you) can forget.
Your dad has to understand that a DVD to burn is half big as a commercial one. And I'm not sure "9.7 GB" is something that will speak to him ;-)

Yeah i know you have to reencode, sorry if i made that unclear i just meant 1 move per dvd instead of multiple movies on one dvd like i do. But i will introduce the arts of dvd shrink for him. HE has 58 in hdtv widescreen (man i sure miss that) that he has. But i will try out dvdx and see if it is better than dvd shrink just a test. Well thanks for the input Dialhot.

feels like i am in a chat room or something

I just did a very complicated DVD (composed abotu 37 VTS and a lot of very short stuffs) with DVDRebuilder.

It's a "one clic" tool, but we enter in something quite tricky for newbies. Unless you can understand the tool and configure it correctly for your dad (after all is correctly setted for the 1st time, you just have to click on "transcode").
