I so happy with my KVCD backups that I want to re-do all my svcd's because they only play on my computer and they're on 2-3 cds and I want to save space. And btw, the logo is great and it gives a professional look to the backups

I copied the AVSEQ0x.dat files from each cd and loaded them into DVD2AVI and when I previewed them they were 480x480 29.97 fps and it kept switching from progressive to interlaced like maybe every other frame was interlaced or something.

So I just want to know if I should turn forced film on and should I deinterlace the project? Also why does FitCD always add borders? I always go back and change it to AddBorders (0,0,0,0).

Muchas Gracias!

FitCD adds borders on the left and the right because your television doesn't display those. Most 4:3 TVs have some overscan, meaning you're wasting bitrate on encoding the edges that aren't going to be seen.

As for the rest of your questions, I can tell you I'm fairly new at this all.

Rend,
if tmpgenc shows interlacing then yes, you'd de-interlace. depending on the way the svcd was encoded, it may already be deinterlaced, even if dvd2avi reports so.
I believe you can delete the addborders line in the script. may look strange though. the avisynth guys/gals may get into more detail.

I cheated though with a recent svcd-pal conversion. Three svcd disks in pal , {HP&TSSorPS depending on where u live ..} were 800+mb each. Very nice high quality svcd rip. I kwagulated them to , 352x240 {cuz my apex doesnt handle 352x480 without audio probz}, mpg1-kvcd vbr, n burnt to non-compliant ntsc vcd, no probs.
each file retain a lot of the quality {obviously not as clean as the dvd ripp itself} and ended up with three 200 mb filez. Good enuff to watch on road trippz or for the kidz. 2300, cq 70-74, 128 audio.
tmpgenc should let u feed the svcd file directly. Extract with vcdgear if needed.

hey thx DrC & zTr,

im gonna try deinterlacing the string of mpegs but how do I know which method to use? AviSynth has a bunch of different types and so does Tmpge (even, odd, etc..) . I tried even field deinterlacing and the movie seemed very blurry. I'd like to just re-rip the dvds but they were lost in the fire
