ok I was wondering wat it was I needed when I have for instance mpeg files of one whole movies. 2-3 discs and then want to compress all those into a one disc mpeg.
I guess I need to know from the start what progs I needed, am I wasting time getting the HUGE file then converting it, is it easier to just get the avi files and convert those
I am new to the whole compression thing and ANY help or just pointing out a direction would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in Advance

Hi,

First welcome on the board.

Second please notice that the purpose here is "Advanced Video Conversion" (as you can read at the top of this screen), so you will be probably completly lost wery quickly unless you are candidate to read and learn a lot. If your goal is to have an easy fast one-click solution to process your movie, then you are not in the correct place.

Now, tell us a little more which format are this "2-3 discs" ? VCD ? SVCD ?
The methods to convert them into KVCD.

And to answer to your question : taking the avi is NOT good, and more over this kind of dicussion has been banished from the forum. So forget it. You are here to learn how to put DVD that you own on a cd. Do we agree ?

Do you know about avisynth ?
To process MPEG1/VCD files, you will need this. It will be used to read the source and merge them into a single video file that you will send to the video encoder (to do a KVCD).

Start there : www.avisynth.org

Great.
After this you will have a lot of threads here on the forum dealing with VCD to KVCD or MPEG1 to KVCD.
Do a search with "vcd AND directshowsource" for instance.
