Rate control in HC
 

I read HC Encoder not has more issues with the rate control, as encoders based in libavcodec (MEncoder, QuEnc and so on).

It's correct?

I see in BitrateWiever two m2v videos of a same movie, one it's made with TMPGEnc and the other is made with HC Encoder.

The TMPGEnc's video is correct for max and min bitrate.

The HC Encoder is ok for max bitrate, for min I see peaks down 300 Kbps. In my DVD player I see good both. I don´t Know the param for de min bitrate in HC Encoder...

1) How I can take a control of min bitrate in HC Encoder?

2) Where is the best value for de Maxbitrate? I use 9100.

You can't set at the moment a min bitrate.

Like every encoder. It depends on you average bitrate.

Actually, with Notch matrix, 6000 is far enought. Do not waste bitrate and you will have more for the rest of the movie (even if high peaks up to 9100 are surely very rare in the video).

I've been using 7,500Kbps on all my KDVD encodes, just to make sure my backups are absolutely blockless.
7,500Kbps is more than enough for 720x480(576), with the Notch matrix, of course ;)
With the Standard MPEG matrix, I have seen blocks at that bitrate, on very high action scenes.
My KDVD copies are :arrow: "visually" identical to the source.

Even CCE sometimes underruns the manually setted min Bitrate, so that issue seems to be no Problem as CCE is an expensive professional appl. :lol: .... In TmpgEnc you can avoid this by using "padding" which is IMHO also used in petercheats NuEnc.

I confirm that, and I'm using pal (720x576) and most of the time I'm using 8000 for max bitrate which is more than enough...maybe I should try with 7500...?

It all depends on the movie.
As Phil said, even 6,000Kbps is more than enough for most cases.
But I just threw in a couple of extra bits, just to cover any anomaly :lol:
