KVCD: KVCDx3 versus Mpeg-2 encoding with VBR 2-pass?

I was trying to do a rip of Tae Bo Live. You know a little exercising on the road :) I tried the KVCD+ template and it had a lot of noise with cq up to 80. Since it was on 30 minutes anyway, I used the vcd bit rate calculator on vcdhelp to pump up the bitrate for the mpeg, still alot of noise. So I decided to make a standard svcd turned out great. I also had another dvd about an hour long, with a lot of action, KVCDX3 doesn't work for my dvd, I have an apex 500w. so I did a SVCD with VBR 2pass bitrate with sound at 128 kps and average bit at 1676. It turned out great. My question is if you can get great quality with VBR 2pass for an mpeg2, why KVCDX3 ?
Better sound ? Less time ? I hope these questions don't offend. Just trying to learn

Hi LadyMiles,

Try the SKVCD template. It's MPEG-2. You'll get the same visual quality of a SVCD, but you'll put much more time on a CD. About 60+ minutes
Also, you might want to use the file prediction method. This way you'll get better quality with CQ encoding mode, and less encoding time than multi pass. Read the thread here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1294
