Hey guys.

Only for a compare I want to test the newest version of CCE SP and compare it with other encoders. So there are some questions I have to ask before I can encode. Hope you can help me.

1. Is it also possible to set the DCT presicion to 8 or 9?

2. Is it possible to set the DCT Type Frame and not Field? Or have this no
effect on the quality of the video?

3. Which is better for my encodes: Linear or Non-Linear quantscale?

4. Which luminance values I should use? 0-255 or 16-253 (I think)?

5. Is it possible to make a ZigZag encode instead of an alternate?

6. Is it possible to set the Frametyp to progressive or is the output of CCE
always interlaced?

7. I have to do a pulldown for my 25Fps PAL movies and I have the
choise between 3:2 and 2:3. What should I use because I though 3:2 is
only for NTSC sources?

8. Does I know right that Q VBR (1Pass) is the best way to store my
movies?

Sorry for my stupid questions because I'm a CCE noob and I hope you can help me.

Thank you.

EM

1-2,5-6) Why don't you read the CCE manual?
3) use nonlinear for MPEG2
4) doesn't matter unless you feed RGB data in CCE
7) Why do you think you have to do a pulldown? You certainly don't.
8 ) Could be, depends on how accurate your prediction method is. I use CCEFront which does the prediction and does a VBR sizing pass if certain conditions are not met so I get the best of both worlds.

OK, I will do. Don't think about it.

I want to use DVD movies with an easy script. I think this is OK.

Because I can't uncheck both option. I have to check one. If not 3:2 then 2:3 or do I something wrong?

@Encoder Master

You surely have done something wrong. You must to do a .ecl (encoder list) file and so to do your configurations in one. So, use the CCE with your set up .ecl file or follow Boulder's recommendation and uses CCEFront by Tylo (you can get it at Doom9) which is very good for prediction in OPV because of it uses RoBa method ...

Cheers,

It doesn't matter. Pulldown isn't done for PAL sources even if it's checked.

OK, thank you for your answers. Want to try it in the next days. Will post my results later.
