The Matrix Trilogy

Hi all, just wanted to report a 6 hour succes. As there is a special topic for 120 minutes with kvcd, I thougt this would be worth mentioning.

I did a backup of the matrix trilogy. I've cut the credits to archieve a higher quality for the movies.

Used 704x576 as res, min 100, max 4500 bitrate. Encoded with tmpgenc with different cq factor for each movie, with revolutions at cq 64.

Didn't use the MA, because of the blurring it does. Just used a simple removegrain() and stmedianfilter(3,3,1,1). For the audio, I used the original 2channel ac3 track, which is 128kb/s.

Looks very good, to be honest I didn't expect it to come out so well because of all the action/effects :D

Yeah, i know, it doesn't seem special anymore to put up to 6hours dvd-quality on one disc... Just wanted to point out that it is indeed very special what we're doing here :D

I was thinking of doing the same thing but was worried about the overall quality I would get but now I might give it another go. :)

Quality is ok, if you give me a framenumber, and tell me how i can post images, i can show how it looks like.
As I said, i did cut the credits to archieve a higher quality for the movie.

Could you post a picture of some of the high action scenes.

Particularly I would like to see the section when Prodater64 is fighting multipal Dialhot's. Oops! :oops: I mean when Neo is fighting multipal Mr. Smiths in that yard in Matrix Reloaded. :lol: :rotf:

Also in Matrix Revolutions when Neo is fighting Mr. Smith in the rain near the end.

Michael refers to the idiot scene where you are supposed to fight a lot of me and win. Pfff... :-D

note: it's impossible this scene is correct with 4500 as max and CQ=64. Don't use that only to judge the quality of the overall conversion.

Multipal means many, the scene when there are hundreds of Mr. Smiths fighting Neo. :)

That's a good point Phil you are right of course. I was just interesting to see how this scene looked.

It would be nice to judge the other scenes where there is not much action just dialogue. :)

Those screenshots look pretty good, I am quite impressed with the overall quality considering you squeezed 6 hours onto one DVDR.

You often use "encode multipal videos..."
This is the first time I understand what you meant.

(I thought you do encodes whith several variation of PAL system, but I disscarted that inmediately)

Lol. :lol: Yes I can see where the confusion comes from.

I don't know why but I seem to always suffer from dyslexia when it comes to this word for some reason without even realising it. I must remember for future references that it is multiple not mulipal. :rotf:

@gamma: could you take a snapshot to the scene when Smith strike Neo in his face and we can see the finger marks in the Neo's face?

I like that still picture (btw, it remember me old times, some conversations between Dialhot and me).

The reason I ask is that TMPGEnc Mpeg2 quality is not so good.

I would like to try this with CCE and see the results. I would probably use the trim() in AviSynth to cut the end credits.

Would you suggest Bicubic Precise over Lanczos resizing? I heard that Lanczos resizing is sharper but can produce large filesizes.

I encoded in tmpgenc, 704x576, and as it is dvd, it was mpeg2 indeed.
I tested also with CCE, which i normally use, but at the lower bitrates of max 4500 tmpgenc gave me a much better result!

I used the trim() also, with the range determined using vdubmod and it's script editor. (option insert trim with range)

The script I used was this:

DCTFilter(1,1,1,1,1,1,0.5,0)

The DCTfilter seemed to give me a lower filesize, I'm not sure if I should have used it but the screenshots speak for their own :wink:

As you can see in the script, I used Lanczos. I always use that, it provides nice sharp images. Bicubic resize gives a softer image, and thus a (slightly) smaller filesize. So I would suggest Lanczos.

I found the stills where Neo strikes Smith and we see the marks in Smith's face... (thus the other way around :wink: )
