I've come along way from knowing nothing to knowing almost all about kvcd.
Thanks to everyone who helped a bro man in the past!

(1) what does this do if added to a script? got it from fit CD
#Trim(0,163257).FadeOut(150)??

(2) Dont ask why but if i use Kwags KDVD Full res template & change setting in Tmpgenc to Mpeg1 (from pull down menu) will this make files that are both compatable with KDVD & KVCD? or is kvcd not compatable with dc precision 10 & gop 18 ? then again is it compatable?

(3) Calcumatic has a setting for "1.47GB Mini DVD+R" is this the 1 i would use to calculate single movie encodes if i wanted to put 3 KDVD's to DVD+R
? In other words would 3x1.47GB fit onto 1 DVD+R?

KVCD are already DC 10 and GOP more than 18 (24 to be precise). What I'm not sure is about the resolution. Put a 704*576 on a VCD... I don't think it's acceptable. It's okay on a SVCD, but that means you have to be in MPEG2.

Yes it will fit and that is a solution. Other is to enter manually a size in the "custom" entry.

modified KDVD template to 704x480 mpeg1 ... Gotcha ! thanks
"a DC component precision of 8 bits is recommended"
thats what it say on the kvcd specs page
I only noticed when I change templates between kvcd & kdvd that it changes to 8 for kvcd & 10 for kdvd
so can dc presition 10 & gop 18 be used on a kvcd or does it have to be DC 8 & gop 24??

I'm asking because I need files that are both DVD & kvcd compliant
(not Ksvcd)

Yes, you're right, I forgot that. But as said, it's a recommandation, you can change it to 10 with no problem.

You quoted some lines of the spec, so I thing you just read them. Look a little above :
Quote:
For optimal encoding on natural material ( movies, new computer generated films ), we recommend to match the KVCD "Notch" Quantization Matrix with a maximum GOP size of 24 pictures.
For animation, old cartoons, etc., we recommend a maximum GOP size of 12 pictures for NTSCFilm (23.973fps), 15 pictures for PAL (25fps) and 18 pictures for NTSC (29.97fps).
So YES, 18 can be used on KVCD. For a movie the result is just a little bit worse than with 24.

There is no "KVCD" compliancy as KVCD breaks all the standards !
If your standalone support standard VCD and also KVCD then it will read whatever is "beetween" the two.
