KVCD: Optimum setting for longer films?
Hi!I'm currently trying to encode a 146 minute film.I'm using the x3 template with TMPGEnc,but have set the output res to 352x480 and reduced the CQ to 30.
Would I be better off with a lower res template and a higher CQ rate? I wanna fit the whole thing on a single CD-R which might be a bit ambitious, but if you aim for the stars you can only fall to the moon etc.,etc... |

Anything with a CQ lower than 60 is barely unwachable. Quote:

Is it fullscreen ? Do you use an avisynth script ? (if not, you should !). What audio bitrate did you choose ? Note: please reduce the size of your avatar, it's unreadble on 15" monitor. |
Made my avatar smaller now...
...TMPGEnc shows "MPEG-1 352x480 25fps CQ30 Layer-2 44100Hz 128kbps" and the output .mpg looks to be 700 Mb.The film runs for 146 mins. Any suggestions? |

Audio bitrate 128kbps.
PAL 4:3,625 line |

Nevertheless, if you movie is 4:3 fullscreen, then you don't have have choice than using a lower resolution. Note : your source is PAL and you convert it into NTSC. Are you aware of that ? |
Thanks,I see what you're saying-I'l check the quality of this encode, then probably retry with a lower res template.
What settings would you use for a 146 min .avi? |

Fullscreen + 146 min = use a script and 352*288 as resolution ! and ...x480 if NOT a valid resolution for encoding a 25 fps ! This is a NTSC resolution. Are you in PAL or NTSC land ? |
Oops! You're quite correct-I'm not using a valid resolution for PAL(I'm in UK)...Will try with lower res template and correct PAL dimensions as you suggest.
Have never used avisynth script before, but will investigate this as well... |
Thanks for all your help so far.
I finally got a good result for my 146 min film using standard 352x288 template and a CQ setting of 64. The whole thing fitted on a normal CD-R 80 and is of more than acceptable quality. Great! |
