TMPGEnc & KDVD Template

ok well man i am having a bitch of a time with TMPGEnc and kdvd template, i go thru the proccess of encoding the movie with the template but the output is alwais messed up, the file is pretty much the right size but the length is alwais mesed up, IE. the movies says 1 hr 3 sec, but the movie is really 1hr 20 min. any input would be greatly apricciated. sorry for the bad spelling...

rds_correia 12-18-2005 10:19 PM

LOL
You really need to get some spell checking.
Just kidding! My English is not one of the best either :P.
Anyway, can you watch the encoded m2v and check that nothing is missing in the movie?
Because most of the time player are not capable of telling the m2v lenght.
So try to burn your movie in DVD-/+RW and you'll probably find out that nothing is really missing ;-).
Cheers

well see the thing is that the movie not only displays wrong time but is also short, not 1hr 20 min of play time it cuts short by the end. i have had this with 2 movies so far.

kwag 12-18-2005 10:42 PM

bigbadmoshe,

You're not using TMPEG version 2.59, are you?
Because if you are, that version has BUGGSSSSS!!!!!! :)

nope TMPGEnc Plus v2.524.63.181 lol long version number. im am so lost as to what is going on, does any one here have a tut, on the settings for TMPGEnc  mayb that is what im doing wrong

Dialhot 12-19-2005 10:01 AM

How do you feed tmpgenc with your source ?
There is no settings in tmgenc that can lead to a shortened movie even if badly configured.

If you want to be sure, before to encode, go in the preview of tmpgenc (menu file) and pull the slider until the end. You will see imediatly if all the movie is there or not.

bigbadmoshe 12-19-2005 12:01 PM

ok the steps i take. i use dvd dycrypter to demux the audio video, i get a m2v file, i than import this into TMPGEnc. when i play the file in media player classic it plays for the right amount of time incl the credits, but when it outpputs it is short. a few things i have noticed, when i open the file in gspot the original m2v, it does not have the right video length. and also when i import the file in to dvd-lab it sais open gops. just wanderg if that is bad.

gamma 12-19-2005 01:45 PM

try decrypting the entire dvd to disk with the "file" mode ('f'-key). This way you'll get VOB files on your hdd. Then create an index file with dgindex, and feed the project file to tmpgenc.

Dialhot 12-19-2005 05:27 PM

That's correct that we never import directly a m2v into tmpgenc, and thus we can't tell if this works correctly or not. Proceed as suggested : use dgindex and use a d2v file (output format for dgindex) as source.

bigbadmoshe 12-19-2005 07:24 PM

ive tried that, but tmpgenc wont open it.
also im trying to figure out avisynth , is this syntax anyware near correct (it was taken from dvd-rb)

LoadPlugin("C:\...\DGDecode.dll")
mpeg2source("F:\...\VTS_01_1.d2v")
ConvertToYUY2(interlaced=true)
AudioDub(BlankClip())

Completly agree with the suggestion.
Although I can't see how an extracted m2v from DVDDecrypter would loose frames at the end of the movie.
Nevertheless, rules of thumb are rules of thumb and the rule of thumb in this case is to extract as a VOB with DVDD and frameserve as a D2V with DGMPGDec.

Verify in the "environnemental settings" of tmpgenc that DGindex is present, checked, and has a bigger priority than other things.

Correct except than :
- you don't need to convert to YUY2. Remove that line
- your movie won't be interlaced 95 times on 100. You are really unlucky if your first attempt is an interlaced movie.
- the audiodub line is useless except with CCE 2.5 and an athlon as CPU.

This ain't even needed if you use the avisynth script as a source instead of the d2v project.
BTW don't forget to properly install readavs in your computer if you really want to open an avisynth script with tmpgenc ;-).
If you still don't have readavs then get it here http://www.avisynth.org/warpenterpri...es/readavs.zip.
And install xvid codec to decode yv12.
Check this thread http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16354 for more clear instructions.

Yes, I don't get it also. Maybe it's a movie which is spread among more pgc's across the dvd
Decrypter only demuxes the pgc you select...

rds_correia 12-20-2005 11:14 AM

Unless you set it to FileMode and select all the files instead of MainMovie only.
That way you'll be sure to have all the movie extracted.

bigbadmoshe, can you tell us which movie is giving you this problem?
And the movie DVD's region (1,2,etc...) along with the video mode (PAL/NTSC)?
Perhaps someone here has already converted this movie and will be able to give more assistance with the extraction/decryption phase.
You got me curious about it .
Cheers

wow thanks so much for all the help but guess what got it to work fine, somthing with the codecs ihave installed or the vfapi plugin i am not sure. i just played around with it and boom works.
now i i want to know what would be optimal setting if i want to make my movie no bigger than 0.99 gigs does any one have a suggestion, qulity is important but you now if i get every movie that size i can fit 4 movies plus audio and menus.. thanks in advance

Dialhot 12-20-2005 03:12 PM

Use a script,
Limit the max bitrate to 5000,
Don't use 5.1 audio*,
Cut the credits,
...

* but the better for me is to have 3 movies and not 4, and keep the 5.1 audio

Boulder 12-21-2005 09:55 AM

You don't even need the YV12 decoder if you use ConverttoRGB24() at the end of the script (for TMPGEnc).

I wouldn't let any decoder do the conversion, better do it in the script.

rds_correia 12-21-2005 06:31 PM

Uau! Now I got confused.
Boulder, do you mean that he should do a colorspace convertion from yv12 to rgb24 instead of using xvid and keep everything in yv12?
Because if you do, it contradicts everything I've ever read about colorspace issues...
Care to enlighten me?

Boulder 12-22-2005 01:24 AM

If he uses TMPGEnc to encode, he should convert the colorspace to RGB24 in the script. The colorspace will be converted anyway so it's better to do it in the script to be sure everything goes fine.
