Bitrates: CQmatic is Calculating Weirdly?

I have 122 minutes long movie and I tried to fit it on one CD.

I made first calculations with CQmatic v.1.4.00 and got CQ 89,73 and file size was 569mb. I used 128kbit audio in Calcumatic so the file size is too small.

Then I tried with CQmatic v.1.4.08 and I got the same results. CQ 89,73.

Where's the problem?

Just push the search button at the top of the page and run a search in the forum for 89,73 and I'm sure you'll find an answer.
That's one of the few typical problems that people have with CQMatic.

all files are located @ g:\ktemp\ (avi, avs, srt, srt.style and tpr)
and there's no source range selections made.

still same CQ.

Are you saving TMPGEnc's project file in text-mode?

No strange char in the file names (accents, symbol...) ?
Did you RESET the range selection ? (NOT the same thing than just unselect it).
Are the size predicted by CQMatic at each step all negatives ?
Do you see tmpgenc work or does it just flash a couple of second ?

Finally you can post the log of CQMatic (jsut click in the window at the end of the job, it will be copied into the clipboard) but I quite sure that everything you need to know is somewhere in the line above.

And when you open the encoded clip don't you see a black background with some red text on it?
If you do, then post us an image of that.

It is more than probable that your movie don't need more than 589 Mb !

You are doing nothing wrong, but in 320x240 it's possible to put up to 3 hours on a disc with a very compressible source. And your movie is "only" 120 minutes.

Just use a bigger resolution

Can you open the encoded video as rui suggested ? Tell us if the image is correct.
You can post also your tmpgenc project file, this way we can see if there is something weird in it.

I've had that same problem with CQMatic before.

You have to clear TMPEG Encoder by going to file and selecting "New". Then load your AVS or AVI file, and then select your KVCD Template. Make your TMPEG adjustments and then save the TMPEG Text File.

It usually happens to me when I try to do two movies in a row, so make sure you choose a "New" template between movies.

But from the tests you ran a couple of days ago, what was the output in the m1v/m2v files.
Did they have small slices from the movie or did they show you a black background with some sentences in red?
If it was the second choice post the sentences so that we can try to help further.

I had few different results but none of them was what you suggested (red text). If I remember right, some encode-test resulted only a black screen with subtitles running on the bottom. But no red text.

Now I did prediction with 352x480 resolution and got CQ 80,36. (It's sad my DVD-player doesn't understand that resolution)
I only encoded 10% (don't have time to wait) and file size is now 69,6mb.
Is this style any accurate to check the size or should I encode the whole video?

Unfortunally there is no way to know the final size from the one of the 10 first percent.

Note: your player can perhaps support this resolution in mpg2 insteed of mpeg1.

Note2: it is NOT normal to have a black screen and just the subtitle ! Did you even try to look at the preview in tmpgenc BEFORE to save the project and run CQMatic ?

I always check aspect ratio/subtitles etc with preview but I must have forgotten it that time.

I'll try that mpeg2 trick.

Nope, my player didn't play the movie correctly. It's weird 'cos all my dvds I've encoded with 352x576(480) resolution have worked without any problems.
