Aspect ratios when converting avi to kvcds?

hi there
i am fairly new to all this and one thing i do not understand at all is this aspect ratio business.Im converting avi to kvcds and have managed to follow the guides and convert some movies but cannot get my head round aspect ratios.

I have searched and spent a long time reading but the more i read the more confused i get.

The movie im currently converting is a divx, 720x304 pal, 135 minutes .Which is the correct template to use and why ? And do i need to change any of the video settings (in mpeg settings-size- aspect ratio) and again if yes could someone please explain why?

My eventual goal is to burn 3/4 kvcds onto a dvd which i managed to do earlier on a rewrite, but i want to make sure i get everything as good as i can before burning properly.

cheers steve

For an "idiot" version of the solution, you just have to set correctly three things into tmpgenc :
- the source A/R (in you case 1:1 VGA)
- the target A/R (4:3 or 16:9 according to what you plan to do - I suggest 4:3 for the purpose you specified)
- the video arrangement : put it on "Full screen - keep aspect ratio"

Beside this you can use any template you want.

But after a while you should better look towards how to do a proper resize that will keep the A/R using avisynth and tools like fitCD or Paranoia".

Good luck.
