Cannot convert 6 hours on a DVD with TMPGEnc?

I'm very new to this KDVD thing.
I downloaded the TMPG templates yesterday & choose the KDVD PAL (full)
You state you can get 6 hours on a DVD using these settings but I am nowhere near this?
Infact it's about normal for me (about 2 hours onto a DVD)

Am I totally missing something here?
Even in the template is states 35 Mb per minute so 2 hours is about right isn't it?

Like I said "newbie" so go easy folks!!!

Everything depends on the bitrates used, and the quality if the picture you asked to tmpgenc (the CQ parameter).

Can you tell what are the max and min bitrate you had during your encoding, and what is the CQ used ?

(note: where do you find the 35 Mb/min information ?)

I just used the default template for full KDVD (which I think is min 300 max 4500 CQ 74 - I think as i'm at work at the mo)

The 35 Mb/min information is actually given in the template details at the wizard start up of TMPG

But if you just lower the bitrate is it not just going to be bad quality?
Like recording on a standalone dvd recorder using the 4 or 6 hour setting?

That's what I thought. Do not use the wizard, it bypasses some settings of the template and put it's own.

Generally speaking, yes of course. The KDVD template is aimed to keep a descent quality with a lower bitrate than the standard DVD template.
And with the KDVD template, without the wizard, and changing only the CQ (do not put it too low) you should have easily more than 2 hours that fits on your DVD.

Note: Be carefull, we are speaking about widescreen material, not fullscreen.

I thought that the template was specificly designed for the wizard?
So how do you actually use the template without the wizard?

P.S. Cheers for all the info here, very useful!!!

Not really :). We never use the wizard as teawking all the parameters by ourselves is what we need.

Fist close the wizard. Then read that guide (at least the part you need, that is the tmpgenc part). Just be carefull that the guide is for KVCD and not KDVD.

Cheers for the advise mate.
Although to tell the truth I don't really understand this "scripting" stuff.
Is there some newbie guide to breakdown scripting?

Thx!
