Something happens in bbMPEG that wrecks the aspect ratio. Using RC3 and the ini files here for LBR template. The AVS file previewed in TMPGEnc has the correct aspect ratio, but the final mpeg produced is stretched very thin.

I'm trying to mux manually with TMPGenc now to see if that makes a difference. Nope, same thing. Maybe my software player just reads it wrong for some reason. I'll try burning it and see what it looks like on the stand-alone.

Also, the file was slightly larger than it should have been (23.4megs larger) so DVD2SVCD created a second disk.

The film is LEON by the way and the CQ_VBR is calculated at 33.87 for a 2hr and 12 minute movie.

Hi m0rdant,

It should look correct in WMP. If it doesn't, then something went wrong. I also got a similar error when I did a movie yesterday. It created two .bin files. The #2 was ~8MB in size . So something is going on with DVD2SVCD's internal file prediction. It's happened to me twice. I'm getting file size fluctuations from -50MB to +8MB range from 800MB center point. I'll write to DVD2SVCD to see if he can double check the file prediction routines. The same movie done manually with the file prediction integrated on FitCD gave me only ~4MB difference.

Yes, there seems to be a problem when doing NTSC movies compared to PAL. I've done 4 PAL's and they were as close as they could be, but, NTSC seems to get a bit too big in size, the 3 NTSC's I tried went above with also about 8-9 mb and that was constant on all three (but all three was about the same length i minutes).

Try changing the "Frames pr Spread" to 24, that might do the trick.

Edit:
Yup, Spread = 100 and Frames pr spread = 24 when doing NTSC seems to work perfect. Or in other words it did so on the NTSC I had tried using 100/25 (which made an overhead on about 8-9 mb each time)

Kwag, you were right about the aspect ratio. It was correct, my ATI software player just didn't like it.

The movie looked really good for one disk. Still not sold on it over a 2 disc multipass SVCD, but amazing quality for a complete movie on one CD (and such a long movie at that).

I'm may give it one more try with Temporal Smoother enabled to remove some of the noise, but the picture was already pretty soft at 352x240.

Wonderful work though Kwag. Much appreciated.

Hey thanks m0rdant,

But the softness is related to the 352x240 resolution. Even if you do a straight VCD to fit that movie in 2 CD's, it will look soft. However, you may try the 352x480 PLUS with the prediction formula, and that would sharpen it quite a bit. Or you can use "Sharpen(.2)" in your .avs script. That will enhance the picture, but it will make your encoding slower. Maybe just try the LBR with the sharpen. See if you like the result
Use the temporal smother "before" the sharpen filter.

read about:

h**p://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35746

testing
with this way:

[AVISYNTH_BicubicResize WITH UNFILTER]
0=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_valu e,^c_value)
1=AddBorders(0,^BorderTop,0,^BorderBottom)
2=LoadPlugin(!UNFILTER.dll)
3=UNFILTER(^x_value,^y_value)
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6
!UNFILTER.dll=
^x_value=
^y_value=

less time to encode , final file is big.

================================================== ==============

and in this way:

[AVISYNTH_BicubicResize WITH UNFILTER]
0=LoadPlugin(!UNFILTER.dll)
1=UNFILTER(^x_value,^y_value)
2=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_valu e,^c_value)
3=AddBorders(0,^BorderTop,0,^BorderBottom)
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6
!UNFILTER.dll=
^x_value=
^y_value=

more time to encode , final file is short.

================================================== ===============

i try with temporalsmoother and temporalsoften too.
if resize comes first:less time,big file.
if resize comes after: more time,short file.

final image quality.......just the same.
