Convert Dvd with subs to kvcd ?

ok I have a few japanese movies I want to rip and turn into kvcd'sone in particular is 126 min, letterbox, ntsc, mpeg2 dvd-5, (this is off the back of the box) I want to fit it on a cd-r in bin cue files with the subs attached I have looked around and there are some explanations on other sites but are too vague. I was refered here and was told that you guys would know. I have used your kdvd templates and they work great but I want to learn kvcd. I have tmpgenc and can get whatever dvd ripper you tell me. I have and have the knowledge of how to use dvdshrink if that helps? thank you for your help. :D

Great, in that case the usage of the KVCd template will be easier. Just load it the same way you loaded the KDVD template :-).

DVDShrink is not necessary in the situation.

What you have to do, in the great lines :
- ripp the movie only with DVDDecrypter in IFO mode
- use DGIndex to create a D2V project that will allow to encode the video part with tmpgenc, and in the same operation will demux the audio (that you will encode separately)
- rip the subtitles with Vobsub or (better IMHO) turn it into text with subrip.
- create a correct avisynth script (with our help)
- encode separetely the video and the audio
- create the VCD with VCDEasy.

You can use the Black Prince's guide to help you in the first steps (the guide need to be updated but is still helpfull).

Tell us when you are stuck :).

Kunichi wa Daniel son :D.
Go ahead and do as Phil told you.
Use Black Prince's guide step by step and let us know when you get stuck.
Oh, and of course we'll help you with the avisynth script ;).
But I wonder if SubRip supports Japanese characters .
Cheers

DGIndex old name was DVD2AVI.

danielsan1969 05-03-2006 12:45 PM

oh ok thank you :P

danielsan1969 05-03-2006 12:56 PM

ok so I am using his guide but cannot figure it out

Go to File>open>(select a vob, e.g. vts_01_1.vob, file from Step 1)
dvd2avi will use the rest of the files
Go to Option>Preview (play 1 or 2 minutes of the video)
Watch the “Video Type” field and use the table below to
set Video>Field Operation:

(1) Video Type.................. (2) Field Operation

NTSC at 5% or higher............ None (use decomb in your avs script)
FILM at 95% or lower............ None (use decomb in your avs script)
FILM only (implies 100%)........ Forced FILM
FILM at 96% or higher........... Forced FILM

Go to Audio>Track Number>Track 1 (this usually is the English audio channel)
Go to Audio>Dolby Digital>Demux (this creates an .ac3 file)
Go to File>Save Project>(your video .d2v file)
When done close DVD2AVI

there is an area that shows the details of the movie but I dont get the NTSC at 5% or higher or the other stuff also when I go to to the audio stuff it wont let me do Go to Audio>Track Number>Track 1 (this usually is the English audio channel)
Go to Audio>Dolby Digital>Demux (this creates an .ac3 file) any of that im sorry for all the trouble thanks.

This is not anymore the case for DGIndex (or I never foudn how to do that :)). But you just have to put by yourself all the other .vob files, using the "ADD" button.

Note : Don't bother with that if you movies are PAL. In this case, you have to set the mode to "None".

DGIndex comes with a great manual (DGIndexManual.htm). you can read it. Or to go simply : what I do myself is to select "demux all tracks". It's easier to have all the streams demuxed and then to choose the one that we want to convert into mp2 for the VCD.

rds_correia 05-03-2006 01:10 PM

Basically, if your movies are PAL you can use this Macromedia Flash guide http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=124810#124810

Yes, with Vobsub. You just have to open the IFO and select the correct subtitle stream and it will simply demux the corresponding stream.

You will find it there : http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm

danielsan1969 05-03-2006 05:54 PM

ok I have done all this so far

ripp the movie only with DVDDecrypter in IFO mode
- use DGIndex to create a D2V project that will allow to encode the video part with tmpgenc, and in the same operation will demux the audio (that you will encode separately)
- rip the subtitles with Vobsub or (better IMHO) turn it into text with subrip.

Whats next?

Dialhot 05-03-2006 06:23 PM

1/ While you where in DGIndex (preview mode), did you see if the movie was interlaced or not ?

2/ what kind of anime is it ? Regular or CG graphics ?

These question are aimed to find the correct avisynth script that you will use.

danielsan1969 05-04-2006 04:48 AM

it is a regular movie but how do i tell if it is interlaced?
