How is everyone doin? Hopefully better than I am! First of all let me start by saying good job on the site Kwag. Now I have an oddball question, anyone know or have tried turning kvcd template into mpeg2? I know the site is about getting the best quaility and higher length (120 Min) on one disc but can't get the kwags template to play on my Philips DVD711. If I change to 480x480 with everything else unchanged, no problem! I have even tried 352x240 and all I get is jerkyness! Even tried lowering the bitrate. So what I was hopin was if anyone has tried and can pass along some bitrate settings and time limits by turning kvcd to ksvcd.

Have you tried re-muxing as SVCD, as some users have suggested in this forum?

Thanks for the reply Kwag but I was figuring it was a bitrate problem with my DVD player since I had read a response in another forum about the standard bitrate, 1150 and 2520. I took your template down to 1600 and it was still jerky so I just went to 2520 and it was fine. Didn't want the quality loss at lower bitrate. Can you post some info on how to re-mux and I will try.

Not a bad idea! What about it? Now that the KVCD template is 99% done I would think the next step is to make a KSVCD template that loads 90 min or more a CD-R.

Well here is what I did last night - - I tried on a downloaded avi, I broke file in half, 63 min and 11 sec, was 2 hrs and 6 min, loaded in tmpgenc 2.53 plus, loaded kwag temp, changed to 480x480 and upped the cq to 74 and left at 2300 max but went to min of 0. File size was 451 MB. Quality was amazing for downloaded dvd rip. Now can mess with the settings to fit entire movie or half, by the looks of it probably whole movie. Please post if anyone else tries something.

That is about 7mb / min. I did one as follows:

480x480, High Quality (Slow), 84%, VBR 500-1550, Stereo 44k/128 and the resulting video was 141mb, 11.98 min or ~11.8mb / min.

I did a test on a clip that was 6 min 42 sec with CQ-72 and max bit at 2300 and min at 0, sorry I gave wrong spec at begining (that was another clip I did with a 300 min). That 6 min clip, was 48.3 MB and I expected a file around 468 mb (took 63 min divided by 6 min and multiplyied the result by the 48.3 and got 468.138466) but when it was done it said 451 mb, I don't know how to account for the CQ setting though. I know it is smaller size because of the center custom size. I played in wmp for about first 6 minutes and it was fine. Have not watched whole movie yet. That is why I am posting so others will try and see what they get.

Hi Tutankhamun:

You might want to try something, before commiting to a full MPEG-2 encode.

Load your favorite .d2v or avi capture or rip, etc, and encode exactly one minute ( 1440 frames at 23.976 ) from anywhere in your movie with the KVCD template.

Now change your output file name, and change the encoding in TMPEG to MPEG-2. Nothing else. You're going to encode the same 1440 frames, but now as MPEG-2 , with the same parameters in the template.

Tell us the results. File size the same? Do they look the same?

Hey Kwag, did your test on exactly 1440 frames. Mpeg1 came out 1 min 1 sec and Mpeg2 came out 1 min 2 sec - ?

Anyway file size difference was 1.2 mb ( is that the difference you got in your test clip? ) and they both played different in wmp, why is that since I do video arrange center custom size????

Yours does look better on computer but I don't go by that! I have to put on cd and play on tv in which they are both the same size and believe me I have tried many a clips, with your original and my little tweaks to get it to play in my dvd player(yours plays but is always jerky)? And I am sure you wont believe me but on tv I really couldn't tell difference between the two.

My brother was over today and I put in the disc that had the 6min 42sec clip of the downloaded dvd rip of Goldeneye. I didn't tell him that I did it on the computer, just asked him if he wanted to watch a movie, I put it in and he thought it was actual dvd, cause he asked why I bought widescreen movie.

I am not saying anything is wrong with your template just that I did a 6 minute test at 480x480 and it looked quit amazing on my 36" tv, since I am having problems with 352x480 and 240. It has got to be the 2300 bitrate! Too high for Philips DVD 711, anyone got one???

I am open to everyones suggestions! Please give advice or help me out!

Am I doing something wrong or what?

When you say file size came out 1.2MB difference. It should have been the MPEG-2 larger than the MPEG-1, but not 1.2MB larger!.

Maybe 200 or 300KB larger. Can you explain a little more?

Kwag, you are the man! I am not ashamed to admit I was wrong! Indeed what I did was incorporated your settings into the SVCD template in 2.53 plus. I have a notebook on my desk and I write all my tests in it and I messed up. However, what I did at work today was take one of my downloaded movies (Blade, 1 hr and 52 min) and TmpgEnc and V Dub to work and put on computer and did some encoding. My first attempt was svcd(film) template with these changes, high quality slow, CQ 70 max2500, your numbers 1,12,3,1,0, and uncheck no motion, and audio at 128. Left paper at work with the actual numbers on it but will get in the morning cause I have 3 other movies encoding at work (overnight) as we speak.

It is on one disc and I am watching it now. However, just as I am writing this to everyone I found out why it is on one disc, I just lost sound at 12 minutes into movie - - but the video looks great. Can anyone help???

I do apologize to everyone for misleading information!
