Ive already read THIS guide.

Ive tried the "KVCD-CQ-352x240-_NTSCFILM...." and even set and experimented with the different settings in the "video arranged metheod" and the "Source Aspect Ratio" but still could not get my desired 'resolution' whenever i play my finished burned kvcd and played it in my dvd... The problem is it keeps playing into FULLSCREEN when I want it to be just like the blue colored rectangle in my pocture below

Because im sure and was told that if the resolution is reduced then the quality of the picture would get higher or am i wrong?

ANY HELP would be appreciated

thanks

Sorry if i posted in wrong forum

Hi,

Let me know if I'm understanding you well : you tried with ALL settings in tempgenc and never obtained a letterboxed result ? If that's it, then it is not normal or that means that the A/R of the source is wrong.

Assuming the source is correct, the settings to put in tmpgenc are :
Source aspect ratio : 1:1
Video Arrange Method : Full screen, keep aspect ratio.

You can check immediatly the result in the preview (menu file) or while tmgenc is encoding (in setting "Display with thinning" for preview mode in menu option). No need to encode all the movie.

Concerning the quality vs the res, that's not fully correct. The higher the resolution, the more pleasant is the result for the eye (human eye is more pleased with a sharp picture than a soft one). That is not for fun that everything is going to HD now (TV, HD-DVD, Blu-ray...). But the matter is, the highter the res, the more bits you have to put on the disc, and as the size of it is limited, the more you have to degrade the quality to fit into the disc.

That's why you have to compromise according to the source, and mainly to its length.

Generally, what I use *for a letterboxed movie* is :
- length up to 1h30 : 544*480
- 1h30 < length < 1h45 : 480*480
- 1h45 < length < 2h00 : 352*480
- over 2h : 352*240.

A BIG thank you to you...

I now have gotten a "letterboxed" result.. Mind me that I didnt even know its called a 'letterboxed'

Im now actually getting a better picture quality by changing the CQ as stated in the guide... However, some parts are still kinda... blurry?(If that is the right word..) What is actually happening is some picture (face or hands whatever) are not sharp...

So is there anything I can do to improve it? Since there really is no guide for that im quite lost with that problem...

If there is any program to sharpen the picture please state it for me...

Thanks again Dialhot

There is one "program" that can do virtually everything : avisynth.
Actually it is not really possible to obtain a correct result without knowing about avisynth. Even for the resizing, the results from tmpgenc are far lesser than what the resize filters of avisynth can produce.

I let you have your first step in avisynth there :
http://www.avisynth.org/index.php?page=YourFirstScript

Afterwards there is a section with avisynth scripts here called "Optimal scripts" where you will find our... optimal scripts

Ok thanks... I guess its good to hear that there are other proggies that can produce better quality than tmpgenc.

Thanks... Will try that... However I got another problem

Im trying to convert this .avi file into KVCD using the same guide i mentioned above... (Actually instead of using of using besweet for the audio I just used TMPGENC cuz im having troubles with besweet.. I mean since besweet is just a proggie to convert .wav to mp2 why not just use tmpgenc?... TMPgenc is pretty direct... Or is there something special on besweet that im missing?)
The MP2 file is the problem... the .wav i extracted using virtualdub is OKAY its plays but after comverting to mp2 i dont hear anything for some reason???

Ill give you the info:

1. Original .AVI file properties 448kbpsbitrate

2. .WAV file extracted from original .avi - 333 megabytes <--- is that normal?? Kinda big

448kbpsbitrate
Channels - 6
Audio sample rate KHz

3. mp2 file - 95.2 mb
I opened with gspot....MPEG-1 Layer 2 128kbps 48000Hz

I already put the mp2 audio and mpeg video together again (demux, mux?? I used the mpegtools in tmpgenc) and tried to play but no sound either.. VOlume is turned on max also..

Hope you can help...

Thanks

You audio is not a wav, it is dolby digital. Tmgpenc can't convert that.
Besweet can.
Besides this, tmgpenc is a crap in the audio area. That is a second reason to use other prog.

Note: your source is definitely not a capture. Please read the disclamer.
