KDVD: What is the preferred encoder these days?

First, Hi to everyone. I've been away from the forum for some time. I was hoping to get a quick update on what has been going on.

1. What is the preferred encoder these days?

2. What is the "main" focus of the interesting stuff at this forum? Quatlity, filtering, compression....

3. Is Avisynth still king?

4. What is the most interesting development in the last 6 months?

1-HCenc free or TMPGEnc shareware if MPEG1 is needed.
2-The same as usual, quality above all, through filtering at the fastest speed possible (CQ mode ;)).
3-Still king and I heard he's running for emperor .
4-Depends a bit but the addition of HCenc and PARanoia although they were not added in the last 6 months. Maybe in the last 12 months or so...

Thanks rds_correia...new toys!

Anyone else, feel free to jump in. I'm interested in what everyone finds interesting these days.

I'm also looking for a challenge so if any of you have an idea for a filter or program...

Avisynth-wise, motion detection has developed quite a bit since Fizick began working on Manao's MVTools. MVDegrain1/2 are two killer denoisers and MVTools-based methods have made certain framerate conversions a breeze.
