Question on the KVCD templates

Thanks a lot for all your research and info on
improving the VCDs.

A short time ago, just before you started your
site, you strongly beleive the CQ was the way to
And it was pretty easy then to be able to alter a
Quality a little to save a space if needeed.

Now you have lots of new templates I'm confused as
to what to do and what to alter. I don't have that
feel as before.

I know you stated before, that you don't like to
re-encode the existing AVIs from the net, but
unfortunately, most of the time thats the way we
could get the movies and even if it's not from
internet, but from the friends, they are allready
in the VCD or DivX or some sort of AVI.

So could you let us know and maybe even post for
others, what is the best way to convert those kind
of files.
Here is a small table of possibilities.

Source (in AVI) good quality OK quality
Fast Action
Slow Action
Very old movies
black & white

Also, if there is a need to save a little space, what is the best template to use to re-encode the standard VCD with the least lost of Quality. BTW,
the movies are mostly old & low speed.

Thanks a lot for your responce.

Hi Al,

There's no need to worry about trying to figure out if your movie will fit or not on a CD-R. Use the file prediction formula. See this thread: and you will be able to fit your complete movie on one or two CD's. The choice will be yours, depending on your desired quality. You can also use the new version of DVD2SVCD ( 1.1.0 Build 1 ) which integrates the file prediction method.

Tip: If your source is Anime, or a high contrast film, change the last value of the GOP to 10 ;)
That's the "MAX number of frames per GOP" on TMPEG.
