Simple Question... NTSC to PAL ??
Hi all!
I got a few NTSC SVCDs... I wanna re-encode them as PAL SVCDs... Is that possible? I thought NTSC has 24 frames and PAL 25... Where does TMPGEnc take the one frame from?? |
If they're 23.976fps, you can convert them to 25fps by adding the line AssumeFPS(25.000) to your Avisynth script. This will just speed up the video a bit and doesn't add any frames which would make it jumpy. You'll have to speed up the audio as well. BeSweet can do this for you.

Are they not independent? Video is Frames Per Second. So a 10 second video can have 10, 15, 23, 25, 30 whatever. The Audio is still 10 seconds. 8O 8O |
I extract the audio with VirtualDub to a WAV file or if the audio is AC3 format, I extract it with Nandub and rename the file extension to AC3.
Then I convert the audio in BeSweet, there's an option for changing the frame rate 23.976<->25.000<->29.97, any of these combinations. I actually don't know if we should talk about frames here, but the creator of BeSweet GUI labeled the setting that way so that's why I'm talking about them. If I plan to convert the audio during encoding so that I can for example clip the credits off, I convert the audio simply to WAV in BeSweet (WAV -> WAV or AC3 -> WAV). I do this because I want to normalize the audio and most of the audio tracks have been AC3 so they need to be downmixed anyway. If I encode the whole clip, I do the WAV->MP2 conversion in BeSweet and mux the video and audio after the video has been encoded. Edit: actually audio is also measured in frames. For example in VDub you'll see the framerate of both video and audio. |
Just change the framerate for the video explicetely (in TMPGEnc or avisynth or whatever).
For the audio you need to strech/compress the audio in time without changing the pitch with the factor 25/23.xx or whichever way you go. This can be done in several audio tools. Works every time. This means that a 24fps converted to PAL will be a few percent to fast, but if you take care of the pitch the eye and ear will not notice |
