KVCD: What is it about this template that allows for small sizes?
 

Hello, What is it about this template that allows for small sizes? I would think that at this resoulution and a CQ value of 50 the file size would be huge. What I'm getting at is, if I set up these setting in DVD2VCD and select auto VBR CQ is DVD2SVCD going to get confused and pick some CQ value like 10 :) ? I have been doing some testing and I'm going to try a movie with these template settings and blockbuster, to see what happens, and don't want to go over 1CD, hense the auto CQ.

This template is great for up to ~60 minutes on one CD-R. Don't try to put more time on one CD at this resolution. You can put a two hour movie on two CD-R's at this resolution with the KVCD 704x480 PLUS template. Make sure you select 2 CD's as target on DVD2SVCD if you're going to use this resolution.

YUCH :( even doing it @ 25 CQ did not give me the small file size ??? I thought @ 50 CQ = 60min then a 120 min should be 25 CQ for 1 CD. Nope, still gave me 1.5 GIG. Oh, well

Are you using TMPEG's latest version 2.59 Standard :?:
Some people are complaining about this. If you are, go back to 2.58, or buy 2.59 PLUS. That's what I use.

Depends on the movie, but for movies that are about 90 mins, I think this template looks better than the LBR template (using only temporal smoother) - especially if there's not a lot of movement. I think the lowest CQ I used was around 40, though, and there's still a lot of "artifacting" (not sure if that's the correct term) - lots of blocks/blurring around the subjects in the scenes. On a standard television, though, the picture is fine.

I was able to fit 90-100 minute movies on one KVCD with this template. However, comparing the same movie encoded using the KVCDx3 template at very low CQ (around 10-12 to fit on one KVCD), it's a toss-up on quality, and the latest LBR using blockbuster and other filters gives a pretty good picture too, with the advantage of MUCH faster encoding time.

I haven't tried using the newer filters with this 704x480 1CD template - wonder how much they would help?? Time for more testing - just need more time!!

I'm using TMPG 2.59 Plus. I'll go back to using the LBR template with Blockbuster+nomosmooth+fluxsmooth. I still get wierd artifacts on the objects and words. Now sure what goes first nomo or flux?

But i though on the kvcdx2 1 cd gave you up to 2 hours on a cd. But then you said you could only fit no more than 60 minutes on it. In the past i've made 93 minute movies using that template.
