Hey Kwag!
Great template! I have tried the newer template but I have gotten a better result with the last one. I am trying to make Spiderman it is in 3 parts and each part is roughly 39 minutes long. I changed the bitrate to 2300, and the CQ to 74. I am putting this movie on 2 discs. (the later half will be on the 2nd disc). Everytime I burn it I get MASSIVE blocks and 5 second pauses all over the place with squeaks. What can I do? Everything in your template is pretty much the same, I didn't modify anything except for changing the size to 352x240. The movie is originally running at 20.000 fps.

I have had a lot of trouble with spiderman aswell. I finally got it encoded to 730mb after about the fourth time encoding. The only problem was with the audio being out of sync. I have been able to correct the audio at the beggining of the movie (as it was out by 6 seconds)but the audio still works its way out of sync further into the movie.

I've tried getting the 3-part Spidey release to work as well. I tried converting each piece just one at a time (this was prior to my finding kvcd.net). The first part converted fine, no out of sync audio either. Parts two and three both fail to convert entirely. It gets about 18min into the second part and TMPGEnc just dies. No error message, no nothing. The program just shuts down and leaves an 18min mpeg (instead of 39min as it should be). Any ideas? I've pretty well given up. Nero was able to convert it, but the audio was VBR so of course the sync went to heck. And the quality pretty well stunk too (ie., don't use Nero to do the conversion for you

Hey guys, in the Centropy version (3CD), it is possible to take out the mpeg file from the disc and then load them into DVD2AVI. You have to name them sequentially though, e.g. AVSEQ01, 02, 03. THen you can load up that .d2v file into TPMGEnc and the .m2a file that accompanies it to start your encoding. I did this to encode a DIVX for my dreamcast but I used VirtualDUB because it was divx. There wanst even a pause where you switch discs normally. Now I am trying to encode with the KVCD but this is the first encode I am doing so I am in the process of testing and wasting so many discs. Settings for this would be helpful and I am surprised that nobody has posted their best settings that they use to get good results. I am seeing very large files that I am making. Like 50MB for 4 minutes. Well if I could get some help for these settings it owuld be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. This is such a great movie I want to get it onto one disc.

As Kwag has mentioned, getting a DivX release to convert to KVCD on a single cdr can be difficult. It seems to be pretty hit or miss, and you won't really know until you try. For example, converting a Beautiful Mind divx to kvcd2 took 890megs, but converting Serendipity for my wife I was able to get a 690meg kvcd2. *shrug*

If you don't care about 1 disc vs. 2, use Kwags kvcdx2 template optimized for 2 cds. He bumps the CQ from 50 to 70, I believe. Let's you get 240min on 2 cdrs with very near DVD quality.

Hey guys I got the spidey movie to encode to 1GB with the KVCD PAL template using full screen and the quality is amazing. I used color correction and the picture looks even better than it did before. It is not even bright anymore. I set the CQ to 65. No I am trying to get it to 800 megs by lowering the framerate to 20fps (what the source is) and maybe the CQ to 57. Good luck. I am almost there!

I am burning a sample right now. I watched the entire 3cd versoin on it with no problems ant that is encoded at 20fps. Goin to 25fps is just a complete waste of space.

Well, I guess that the 20fps didnt work too well. I wonder what is up with that. I am going to try and encode with a CQ of 57. What kind of quality shouild that give me?

Hi a_star62:

You can only encode at 23.976fps NTSC Film, 25fps PAL, or 29.97fps NTSC.
These are the only frame rates for standard VCD's that will play back correctly on standalone DVD players.

Why don't my questions ever get answered?
It seems everytime I post a question, someone shifts my own topic to something else. Does anyone know how I can get great quality ( I dont care about getting it on one disc) using kwag's template?

Maybe because you are talking about Spiderman, which is of course an illegal DIVx or SVCD, downloaded from the net!.

And people who are posting here are aware of that.

Heh, that's kinda funny. I know I'm not the only one on these boards talking about an illegal movie. It just seems that my questions never seem to get answered or some person will always post something in my topic off topic, thus drifting everyone over to their posts, leaving my question unanswered. I posted something about spiderman once or twice which is/was the only illegal DiVX I had.

Sorry Kwag, I realized I was being a jerk. I'm just a little hot-headed today. I admire your work and the effort you put into your templates.

P.S. Just a quick question - if the source is 480x272 and I encode it to 352x240 with a CQ of 74, how will that affect the quality.

thanks.

If you encode from 480x272 to 352x240, you should expect a pretty good result. Because you're down scaling the resolution. But not the other way around
