Thanks for the reply, but honestly, I could not understand you.

I am looking for some clean and easy solution for watching PAL VCDs on my standalone DVD.

If not possible, I will continue reencoding the movies to NTSC.

Thanks
but you wrote this:
"Definitely the PAL mode does not work with this DVD.
Tried a PAL SVCD and it is black and white."

and:
"But for some strange reason, its PAL format is not compatible at all with TV sets here in Argentina, so I have to use it in NTSC."
"Despite the fact that I shouldn´t do transcoding, what would you suggest?"

or i'm wrong?

You are right. The clue that made me think of that, is that whenever I switch my DVD into PAL, the menu displayed in the TV is B&W. Have checked with 4 different TV sets to no avail.
I also called a Philips representative and he told me that the unit will not work in PAL mode. That is why it is preset at factory to NTSC.
The problem is that whenever I put a PAL VCD into it, it switches to PAL and got again, picture and menus in B&W.

I thought that may be there was a way to overcome this problem, and thus, I could see all my VCDs in PAL. But unfortunately there seems to be none.
I will continue reencoding my VCDs to NTSC.

Thanks again.

ok Gaudi
philips tvs are the best for me!
acient models has a "switch system" in remote control or "manual switch".
(in Brasil was ntsc, pal-m(Brasil) and pal-n(Argentina,Uruguai,Paraguai))
you turn to what system you wanted.
now is "automatic".(a pain)

eletronics gives with one hand and get with other hand (sometimes).
i work with television for 30 years.
if your model is "multisystem" ,.....has to work.

but continue reencoding your VCDs to NTSC.....is better.

It's not so bad: NTSC is better quality, since you have a significantly lower vertical resolution.

Hi,

I'm having problems converting a movie using DVD2SVCD.
Details
3ivx
608x256
23.976 fps

I think theres a problem with the frame rate so I thought I would post it here.
I don't think DVD2SVCD likes 23.976 fps is this right ? Does it have to be 29.97 ?
I've put the file through Virtual dub, turned on full processing on the sound and turn it into a wav file. So now I have a avi that has a wav file.
When I put it through DVD2SVCD the sound and video go out of sync.
I've been seaching this forum for a couple of days and haven't come across anyone else with this particular problem. If there is please refer me to the link.

What's my experience with pal?! Well... my dvd can play pal movies.
Color is normal but 99% of the encoded pal movies have very strange
wide resolution on my tv. That makes movie impossible to watch. I was
working hard to find out the best solution because I'm encoding 6-7
movies per day. The best for me is convert pal to ntsc 23.976... there
is no problem at all. What I'm doing? I'm generating avs with
moviestacker and after
AviSource("example.avi", false)
line I'm inserting
ConvertFPS(23.976)
I'm also cnahging line
GripCrop(352, 288, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)
to
GripCrop(352, 240, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)

That's it. I'm having perfect ntsc 23.976fps. I'm muxing with bbmpeg.
No problems with audio/video desync or anything like that.
