Dear kwag/all,

I am a newbie in terms of DVD->VCD ripping. I only have 5 successful projects under my belt, and these are typical/traditional/standard way of doing VCD.

I really want to try this approach... already downloaded the different templates for tmpgenc from your download page.

I have these setup...

DVD drive -> Smartripper 2.41 -> DVD2avi 1.76 - Tmpgenc 2.59 -> VCDEasy 1.1.3 with cdrdao support...

I tried to follow one of the guides from you website links but half of the pictures there won't load...

Is there any guides that you can direct me to?

Do I need other softwares to use your approach/style...?

Or am I good to go...

Right now I am doing the typical 750meg + menu/chapter on a 800min CD.

Thank you...

May want to consider adding FITCD in between DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc (which also means installing AVISYNTH). It may take while to learn how to use it, but the results are well worth the effort. I use FITCD to generate a base AVS file (just resizing, add borders, source location, etc.), then I manually enter code in for blockbuster (aka add noise), legalclip and fluxsmooth.

It looks MUCH better than if I had just fed the video directly into TMPGEnc, which is what I used to do. The difference is night and day.

Of course, you can skip FITCD and just use AVISYNTH directly. Might be an easier route than loading up FITCD... the interface is quite messy to put it mildly.

VCDhelp would be a great place to gain a basic knowledge of AVISYNTH, and then you may want to come back to the KVCD forums to learn about some more advanced techniques and you'll definitely want to learn about SansGrip's filters (blockbuster, fluxsmooth, etc.).

And then, you may decide to skip it for now. I had six months of experience with creating VCDs (CLAD>TMPGEnc>VCDEASY>CDRWIN) before I started using AVISYNTH and FITCD. Like I said, if you wanna go through the trouble, it IS worth it.
