Dary,

Dude, I've got the same problem. I can do anything under 80 minutes, but anything over I get huge files. It's like the dang templates don't work. I haven't figured it out yet, but will let you know as soon as I figure something out. Please do the same for me.

I'm using VirtualDub for capturing AVIs. PowerVCR and AverTVstudio for capturing MPEGs. SmartRipper to rip DVDs and DVD2AVI to make the files for TMPEGenc.

What have you tried?

DARY,

load the kVCDx3 template and bump the CQ between 65-70 with a max bitrate of 2500, and select the default Q-Matrix.
do you use AVIsynth? is you do, end the script with a smoother to help soften block noise as well as lowering filesize. here is an example:

LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\decomb.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\fluxsmooth.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\blockbuster.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\legalclip.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\==Appz==\Video Editing\AVIsynth\sampler.dll")
mpeg2source("E:\XXXX\xxxx.d2v")
LegalClip()
FluxSmooth()
TemporalSmoother(1,2)
LegalClip()
ConvertToRGB()

if all else fails, try lowering the resolution to maybe 352x480, or if need be, 352x240.
hope this helps... good luck!!!

BSBECK,

you use powerVCR? i cant get mine to work properly. everything is cool, but my audio sync is so terrible. any ideas?

Dary,

Hooray!!! I got it to work. I just made a 120 minute movie into 720 meg MPEG file. I had to change the stream type from MPEG-1 Video CD to MPEG-1 System (VBR). If I use MPEG-1 Video CD (non-standard) it doesn't work. Now the KVCD templates seem to be working just fine.
I didn't notice when I ran the file through VCDEasy, it said the file needed padding. Should I always enable padding in TMPEGEnc ???

DeltaBoy,

I've got an AverMedia TVStudio TV tuner/capture card. It works just fine with PowerVCR. What capture board do you have?

Thanks,
bsbeck

Deltaboy,

I doubt it's the SoundBlaster Live. I've got one and it works great. My brother has an Aopen TI4200 with a SoundBlaster and he uses PowerVCR also. We are both running Asus A7V266E motherboards with AMD Athlon XP 1800+.

I'm new to the forum but I am tearing my hair out!!!!
I am trying to encode farscape using the KVCD plus 352x576 (PAL) template and I am producing video with an average size of 15 MB per minute! I recorded the video on a Panasonic DMR-E20, I'm frameserving from AVIsynth and encoding with TMPGEnc Plus 2.59. I am using the folowing avs script:

LoadPlugin("C:\WINDOWS\system32\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\WINDOWS\system32\fluxsmooth.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\WINDOWS\system32\blockbuster.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\WINDOWS\system32\legalclip.dll")
Mpeg2Source("C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\My Documents\My Videos\farscape.d2v")
LegalClip()
LanczosResize(352,576,0,0,704,576)
FluxSmooth()
TemporalSmoother(1,2)
Blockbuster(method="noise", variance=.5, seed=1)
Blockbuster(method="sharpen", detail_min=20, detail_max=90, strength=8 )
LegalClip()
ConvertToRGB()

Help! Does anyone know where I am going wrong.

Hi mycroft,

If you're on TMPEG 2.59, make sure that on your stream type you are encoding as "ES (Video only)"

First of all, get rid of 'sharpen' . It doesn't do much good and increases the filesize a lot.

Secondly, read the guide black prince wrote. It's a step-by-step one so you should be able to create fine KVCDs using that.
