KDVD 720x480 anime sample

Here's a KDVD 720x480 anime sample to start you all up: http://www.kvcd.net/ranma.mpg -kwag |
Cool! I know I've just started using KDVD and there don't seem to be many others yet...but DVD writer prices are dropping.
Still working on my LotR Special Edition conversion. Just stopped DVD2SVCD because it was using IVTC which was slowing things down a great deal and its not needed for this film. DVD2AVI shows it at 98% Film until the end credits and then it switches to 7-8% so I'm going to use Force Film on it. I intended to cut off the 20 minutes of scrolling fan club members names anyway. Here's hoping the encode will be done by tomorrow night sometime and I can post results. The test clips I've looked at seemed very good. I'm using Blockbuster, Fluxsmooth, LegalClip at a CQ of 72. I've kept the picture Anamorphic, which I'm hoping will work alright. |
Hey Great !!
About 50% of my encodes are for DVD so having this in its own area is perfect .... :ole: |
yeah, I'm using KDVD too since I provided myself with a Pioneer DVR A03 writer... works great, but I'm still thinking about keeping it or not...
It kinda sucks that I can't burn my VCD-compliant files on a DVD... How much are DVD writers over there? I paid 211 euros at eBay... that's about the same in dollars... (american  ) |

You can burn VCD compliant(sort of) files to a DVD. The audio needs to be muxed out and resampled at 48 Hz and then muxed back in. 352x240 Mpeg1 is a valid DVD resolution & mpeg type. |
:? yeah I know... but the GOP still has to be standard too right? I haven't done any encode in the past with the DVD standard GOP, but always used the KVCD GOP...

Hey guys,
Don't forget that even though the GOP is limited to 18 for DVDs, the KVCD BETA-1a "Notch" matrix is in there now  That helps A LOT with compression, and if you add SansGrip's filters, you'll be able to easily fit ~6 hours full 720x480 full DVD quality on each DVD :D -kwag |
Will a player that can play mpeg files on an ISO session play them if they're burned in a data DVD instead of a data CD?
If so, just burn a dvd with your mpg files. The drawback is that you problably won't have menus, chapters, switchable subtitles, multiple audio, etc. My player plays ISO mpegs, but I can't test it because I don't have a dvd burner. |
Which sansgrip filters would you add for a KDVD? I'm using Fluxsmooth with LotR. I had blockbuster in there at one point but took it out because I read something about blockbuster not really doing anything with CQ encodes (just with CQ_VBR)...

Oh, and GripFit of course ;). |
What Are The standard thresholds? wasn't that 7? how far would you decrease it for DVD encodes?

I'd try dropping to 4 or so and see how it looks. |
