KDVD: Which Template for Anamorphic?
 

This is a question for Kwag(or anyone else who knows what i should do)

I have an Anamorphic 81 minute vob file taken from A DVD that i want to encode to KVCD.

I want to keep it anamorphic,(with the same original resolution, this is because i have a 16:9 tv and want to get the most out of it, i realize it wont look right on a 4:3 TV, but thats ok its for 16:9) and put it on 1, 99 minute CD-R DIsc

Which template do you suggest i use to accomplish best results.

KVCD PLUS
KVCDx3
SKVCD

or perhaps some "weird and crazy" "hybrid" Template you have waiting to unvail to us KVCDers

Any template will work. Just use FitCD and select "Anamorphic" on output. Remember that you must encode the output as 4:3 for a VCD (KVCD). Unless your TV can adjust the aspect, and then you can encode as 16:9. Go safe, and encode 4:3 :wink:

I don't think material sized for anamorphic display will look right if you encode it at 4:3. The DVD player won't know to alter the AR.

True. You would have to encode 16:9. But then 16:9 is not valid for VCD, and some systems cough on that. I always encode my output at 4:3 non-anamorphic, unless I'm doing a KDVD :D

Most systems, apparently. I don't know whether mine will play them (need to test that :D) but it wouldn't work on as many players as a regular KVCD.

I don't know how it is in North America, but it appears that most people that buy a new TV here in Holland are buying a Widescreen TV (We don't have HDTV in Europe).

I encode almost all my movies for 16:9 Anamorphic and every Widescreen television I've tried them on plays them well as Widescreen.

They look shit on normal TV's, but I like the extra lines. 352x288 at 16:9 looks just as good to my eyes as 352x576 at 4:3 letterboxed, maybe because my TV's zoom function to show 4:3 as 16:9 doesn't look that nice.

(I still prefer 352x288 because that plays on all the DVD-players of my friends and acquaintances)

One strange thing: A friend of mine has a six year old Philips TV that can actualy put a 16:9 anamorphic source within a 4:3 letterbox. He never knew what that function was good for until he started borowing some of my KVCD's. The picture even looks better, because he's using fewer lines of the TV to show the 352x288 picture :)
