Ive got a 720x576 interlaced (DVD) source that I want to encode.

Is it better to deinterlace-process-(re)interlace and encode as an
interlaced source, or deinterlace-process and encode as a non-
interlaced source?

eg:
SeparateFields()
Resize()
Smooth()
Weave()

-OR-

SuperGreatDeinterlace()
Resize()
Smooth()

I believe you should deinterlace as MPEG-1 doesn't include interlaced encoding. I always use FieldDeinterlace from Donald Graft's Decomb plugin and have had very good results. I tried encoding one Hitchcock documentary without deinterlacing it and it looked simply horrible. You could see the combing every time there were camera pans etc. Using FieldDeinterlace solved this completely.
