How to use the KDVD templates?

Hi :?
Total newbie here. I've just made my first dvd backup with the DVD2SVCD software. I used the cvd settings that was there. The result was ok. I would like to use the KDVD templates both the halfD1 and the full. (Mostly the halfD1). But am not sure how to do that.
I would like to have 2-3 movies on one dvd-r (whenever the DRU500a hit the stores here). How to I make dvd backups in the DVD2SVCD software in halfD1 format? I have searched the forums to find my answer, but can't find anything that exactly descripes how to do it.
I have no idea whatsoever how to use FitCD. I use mostly PAL dvd's and also TMPenc.

Is it true when I get the feeling from reading your posts that regular cvd's and then the kdvd halfD1 template is NOT the same thing. Due to a GOP, matrix thing or something like that.

I also want to make dvd-r's of all my VHS tapes, but that's a bit easier I think, just capture the tapes to the PC and convert it with TMPGenc with the KDVD templates and press start - right??

Please, when anwered. Answer in "newbie" way. So that I can understand it. Is there perhaps an easier way to make dvd backups to half D1 than using dvd2svcd?

Thanks, DenGirl

Read the guide that is here: http://www.kvcd.net/guides/kguide/kvcdguide.htm
Just replace the template with the Half D1 template. Then search www.google.com for free DVD burning software or use low priced software like Ulead DVD movie factory. Making backups is really not difficult once you do it a couple of times.

Will this work with avi's(divx). Just wondering if I could skip steps to basicly tmpenc and then follow the rest of the steps. Just wondering how to simplify my avi to kvd needs.
