* Note: to comply with the DVD standard, the total number of frames in each GOP should not exceed 15 (for PAL) or 18 (for NTSC). In general, if you have a lot of fast motion, you should use shorter GOPs, or use 2 or 3 I-frames in each GOP (for example: IPPPIPPPIPPP).

interesting, since the kwag using more that the standard, it may be the problem with some dvd

** Number of P pictures: (use a value between 1 and 5)..

the kwag is using 18?? tmpgenc option value is 1 to 5

Kwag, just curious, have you tried reverting back to the standard gop structure.. 1/5/2/1 ?

here was the test, using a pal dvd/ 2min, changing the gop

your gop 1/18/3/1 = 27mb

standard gop 1/5/2/1 = 26mb

so there is about a 100mb difference if converting to a full movies..

i'll keep testing the setting...so far both look the same quality

Hi rackaboy:

You only got 1 MB difference because you encoded a high action or many changing scenes in those 2 minutes.
There's no advantage there as far as compression.
The GOP works best at the times when you have long scenes and low motion. So it's really an average.
So you'll get an average of 6-7 megabytes per minute on a complete movie.
With the standard GOP of 1,5,2,1 there's not that much compression even on long scenes or low action. So your average MB per minute is much higher.

heya there... ya remember the test I did with the movie TURN IT UP..

its in the other thread..well here is the result...

your template = 780 mb

with standard template = 740 mb

using mvbr of 1300 ( I said b4 CQ doesnt not work on a pioneer, even after numberous setting changes)... nothing was changed with or added/deleted within the other settings...resolution 720x488

So I think there is something going on with the GOP settings..

Hi rackaboy:

Could you try something. Take the current KVCDx2 template and change from CQ to MVBR and set the values like they are in the template, MIN=300, MAX=2300.

See if your player then plays at 704x480.
